When shopping for a used AR240, I know the hull/keel change at 2015. is there a good reference for the changes each year. Any major differences between 2015 and 16?

Thanks!

Dan

We have a spreadsheet around here somewhere that shows all the model years (though we may have not updated 18/19, I don’t recall).

@Julian started the thread. It used to be a sticky thread so it was at the top somewhere, but not sure since the update.

Try searching for key word “spreadsheet” by user Julian and see if that gets you close.

Off the top of my head, 15, 16 and maybe 17 ar240 are basically the same boat. 18 got a new connext, maybe?

2015 AR240 was the first year of the new generation, it carried virtually identical w/ no changes other than color schemes.
However, only boats sold in 2016 would have had the new redesigned timing chains (with 4 links) - installed in all 1.8 N/A engines produced after 7/2015 (TTBOMK).

Thank you much! Is the timing chain something thaat needs to be watched more carefully on pre '16 engines or something that must be done at a certain hour mark?

No and no, really.
There are rare (but unfortunately catastrophic) occurrences of the old 3-link TCs breaking, but those are primarily in the SHO (supercharged) engines in jet skis.
The frequency of those TC failures is very low in boats, IMO on par with other possible catastrophic failure modes which are all VERY INFREQUENT with Yamaha jet boats, and it would not dissuade me from buying one.

EDIT: So far Yamaha has been (quietly) fixing all TC failures we know of, in and out of warranty. In most cases it involves a new engine as those are interference engines.

Seems like we’re hearing that those are being covered under warranty even outside the normal warranty coverage, too. If I remember right ?
