I have looked at the Magma grills and just can't justify spending Over $400 for a smaller grill and mount than what I have been using on the table top. I have an old Walmart grill that cost me $25 that I bungee onto the table. I get a lot of compliments about it. Even though it is gas it takes a little longer to get going. I want something I can throw a steak on and have it ready in just a few minutes. The Magma grills are too small for the price and even smaller than my Walmart grill. so I decided to try mounting the small portable grills from Sams Club. Here's my solution...

First my old Setup...

Now my current Grill.

With 2 huge Ribeyes and 4 Ears of corn. Grilling steaks is just like at home now.

And now I can use my table to prep everything

I bought the Grill from Sams Club for $99 and it has two burners for 20,000 btu's which heats up real fast plus it has more grilling space. I wanted to do away with using the green throw aways (I know you can refill them but that is also problematic). I bought a 5lb refillable prepurged Propane tank from Amazon. You should have seen the guy's face when I asked him to fill it. He'd never heard of a Propane tank that size that was refillable. The Grill has built in fold out legs but for my build they aren't very practical. I found 4 Stainless 4" inch legs at Home Depot for about $4.50 each and mounted them under the grill. Home Depot didn't have the black Chair tips, I found those at Lowes for $5. I first tried using 2 Walmart cutting boards for the stand but they warped under the weight. I ended up buying a piece of Star Board from Home Depot ($55) and cut 2 pieces to double up on the mount which worked perfectly. I bought the Magma grill mount from Amazon for around $65. I bought a 2 Pack of Stainless Rod Holders from Amazon as well for $20. Clear Castor cups for the legs to sit into without moving I found at Lowes. I screwed and 5200'd them to the Star Board mount. For safety I bought a locking paracord strap at Home Depot for $3.

This Pic shows the cutting boards (replaced with star board) but it shows the setup

Here's the stand with Star Board 5200'd together

The Stainless legs from Home Depot

And mounted to the Grill

Here's Everything I got except the the hooks and safety strap.

Where do you store the grill when not in use?

Awesome write up. You’re making me think about the possibility of mixing steak and water sports.

Nice grill, but more importantly...where do you store that LPG cylinder when not in use, a locker? There are Safety Regs. on where and how to store it when not in use. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://law.resource.org/pub/us/cfr/ibr/001/abyc.A-01.1993.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjv0pPLguHhAhXEmOAKHZofDv8QFjAAegQIBRAB&usg=AOvVaw0ZIq2QOfASCB_B3eo2P9Wn

Our 91 Beneteau, made in So. Carolina, had a factory installed propane system for the Galley. It was not legal by ABYC standards for several reasons and was disconnected. The Galley has an alcohol stove/oven now. We rail mount the Napoleon grille and use green coleman bottles that we dont leave on the boat. Same setup for the Magma on the Yamaha. Not trying to scare...just provide info.

I store the grill in the ski locker, fits perfectly. The tank I store back in the box it came in so it doesn't move around and in the Head storage area. You can still use the smaller tanks with an adapter I just got tired of knowing which one still had gas in it after a day of grilling.
