Question; I've got a pump for my tube that I plug into a wall outlet, but I want to start pumping up the tube on the water. Is an inverter what I need? Something like this?

ok thanks for info. I like that, but I was hoping to just get something to plug into 12v port. Are there advantages to using the clips?

I use the 12v pump linked above. The battery clips are because most cigar lighter sockets won't handle the 28amp draw. I have tried two other pumps over the years and this works the best for a 12v pump. That said it still takes more time than I would like to inflate my popparzi tube which is huge. I have been toying with the idea of using a battery powered leaf blower and making a custom nozzle for it. My other idea is to add a 1800 watt inverter to power a corded leaf blower and a Ninja to make frozen drinks. I think the later idea may win out.

I have a pump that works fairly well, so I didn't want to have to buy another pump. I wasn't sure if that inverter was the right choice, I don't have my pump specs handy at the moment, I guess it depends on those to whether I need to go a different route (buy the airhead pump). I have the Big Mable tube, I can't imagine anything bigger than that monstrosity. It has gotten to be more of an inconvenience than fun simply due to having to tie it down on the way to the ramp, loading it on the boat and then holding on to it until we get to the creek to use it. Do you think that inverter I posted would work?

A decent inverter will cost you more than the 12V pump. If all you would use it for is your tubes, it makes sense to buy a 12V pump.

I think this will suit my need. I just st didn't want to blow any fuses. You agree? Thanks everyone for your responses!!

I have that exact one. Takes a few minutes to inflate a three person towable, but it does the job.

I have a few of those and they are high volume pumps what you really want is a high volume/pressure pump like the one I linked above.

I figure if it doesn't work, it's only $20, I'll go with the one you suggested. Thanks.

The smaller one works ok but the bigger one works much better. I have both.

You will need to look on the pump to see what the power requirements are, this inverter will only give you 2.5 amps at 120V.

I have a high pressure pump that runs off of 12V.

Something like this.

I have had this one for many years - completely trouble free. Works like a champ blowing up large tubes (like a Super Mable - 3 person with full backrest). Highly recommended for this application.
