Wow.....that is amazing!!! Did you have these engines handy?
So it went from 270hp to 320hp?

Quite the project!!!!

Is it finished yet?
320 HP and room for SVHO's now if I feel so inclined... the SVHO's are pricy (about 10K for a complete one) and require 160mm pumps... finished... not yet but soon.. I started the weekend after memorial day... pulling the mockup engine today.. and some final details in the new engine room... gonna foam the new bulkhead and touch up some paint and glass that I couldn't reach with the mockup in the way... new engine install starts this week!!!

So i got the bright idea to just add two more speakers rather than the access plates... I have one more set of line outs on my head unit... Made a new port armrest base...

yeah I know that you can see the seam and I could have wrapped it a bit better but Im using 1 1/4 closed cell neoprene foam and it will last 10 times longer than the cheap white vinyl... I used some scraps as I am gonna be tight on the foam to finish the whole boat... and I cant get any more at the price I got this at... it doesn't get water logged like the regular seat foam... and I dont want any stitching in the covers if it can be avoided.... I did the first ones with French seams and they look great till ya get drunk on an island and get muck into the seams

I haven't been on for some time and I come back and find the greatest post ever! Unreal and incredible work - what do you do for a living? Engineer?

It does seem like a lot of work for only a slight bit of increase in power but thats not why you do things like this. Would putting some rotax ever be possible or are their pump design and electrics prohibitive for this?

Building big fast Computers and solving technical problems pays the bills for the last 45 years... Engineer, Mathematician, Computer Scientist by education, Beer drinkin farm kid by trade... or vice versa... :banghead:

This is my first boat and im learning.. the repower was to get out of the fuel hungry short lived 2 strokes and while its only 25HP more per side it will provide another datapoint... Im watching the 250 HP 1.8 SVHOs as there are Motec ECU's for them. I now have room for them now after the mods for the MR-1 HO's...

I have a Rotax 4-Tec 155 in my temp boat... it would be possible however there are additional issues to resolve beyond the drive line... the Rotax engines are closed loop cooled with a heat exchanger plate... not unsolvable but more complicated than the Yamaha Parts Bin Swap LOL

in case you were wondering what the Yamaha design was for engine mounts was... just a chunk of aluminum bonded and wrapped in glass... I considered this but opted for my 3/4" bonded homebrew composite Coosa board birch plywood sandwich and 316L stainless wrapped in a layer of cloth and resin...

bonding in some Coosa board for engine oil cover/bolt clearance... should get 3/8-1/2" clearance

all bonded in... a cloth and resin here and there, a quck sand, topcoat...

I used about 2/5 of the space from the original tank... the engines are gonna be 120lbs heavier and the fuel is 120 lbs more as well.. so i had to move the fuel weight forward... I did a rough weight and balance like you would an airplane before I started... the CG moves slightly forward... so I'll limit the boat to 6 people... in reality I've never had more than 4 people in the boat at one time and its 90% Me (215) and Blond Beach Barbie (103) and some Coors light, occasionally the grandson a magma kettle grill and a couple of fish poles... I do have some practical data with the old setup as I often mount my 250 LB Yamaha generator in the bow between the front seats and the boat is much more stable in the light chop... also a little down on the trim tab keeps the thing from porpoising above 50 MPH and settles the boat down and keeps from unporting the jet intakes... trust me the 20mm shafts dont like to slam back in the water WFO as it usually twists them off right behind the splines... My bigger concern is drawing a little more water at rest/idle as i run skinny water all the time... oh and another trick so you can leave the Bimini up at speed is to adjust the poles in the rear so the bimini has zero angle of attack...
