Ok, I'm having a hard time grasping or even coming close to understanding the drainage system in my 15 Yamaha Limited S. This boat has 4 plugs and a scupper drain. The scupper drain (should) drain the main deck directly out the back. The ski locker drains down into the hull. Now comes the fun part. The bilge area... So this area has two plugs, 1 from the fuel tank bay that will drain into the bilge and the other will drain the bilge into the hull. The other plug is on the hull drain plug on the back keel.

I bought this boat off the show room floor. It has always had the hull plug in the bilge area left loose. I always knew where the bilge pump was in the engine compartment, but always thought that there was a second one in the hull. Why? My bilge always pisses out water about 3-5 times while trotting up and down the river. (about 2-4hrs) I never really seen water in the bilge, therefor always thought the hull bilge was doing its job. Now I know that its just the one bilge.
Here is the riddle. WHERE THE HELL IS THE WATER COMING FROM??

The scupper tube is secured, so there shouldn't be water getting into the bilge from there. The logical answer would be the water is coming up from the hull plug up into the bilge. But how is the water getting into the hull? And if the bilge hull plug is in, how does water get into the bilge? I keep the boat moored at the marina. Ive had it out of the water this past week after having a related issue https://jetboaters.net/threads/15-limited-s-problem.14774/#post-255424

Is it possible that I have a leaky hull? Im going to put the bilge hull plug in and run it up and down the river sometime this week then take it back to the ramp and pull the hull drain and see how much water comes out. In my mind there is leak somewhere. I hope this makes sense, because it sure doesn't to me.

I don't understand it completely either. I even took a garden hose and ran water in the boat. Nothing ended up in the bilge. It either ran out the scupper or the hull drain. I've seen the bilge run more than once or twice. Sometimes I get water out of the drain and have no idea why. Hopefully someone has a clue

If you are running really hard the water will get by the cleanout plugs and spill into the oval cover under the plugs hatch.

I can see that happening. I know when I'm at speed and slow down real quick that I get back wash over the back deck. Never really seen it go high enough over the clean out door. Will definitely try a couple of hard stops and watch how high the water goes.

When sitting in the water the rear of the boat is usually not the lowest point(unless a bunch of people are hanging out on the swim deck.) It could be that rain water is getting in your boat while moored and when you eventually throttle up the rear where your bulge pump is finally is the lowest spot and can pump out the water.

I don't mean it washes over. I mean it gets forced past the plugs. If I cruise around all day at 35 and below not a drop gets in the bilge. Do a few wide open strafing runs I get water in the bilge. The drain under the clean out hatch gets overloaded and the excess goes under the oval cover.

Did some tests last night. I shot a hose up to the anchor drain and filled up the locker. Defiantly got some water leaking there. Not a lot, but will be sealing that. I also filled up the clean out bays. (see video) This was very disturbing to me. Since I keep my boat moored for months at a time and the only way to get the water out of the hull is to pull the drain plug. I think its leaking around the sealed edge as much as getting under the the access cover. So, since I now know how much water is accumulating in the hull, should I keep the hull drain plug to the bilge open so water will come up and at least get some of the water out? I'm going to try and figure out a way to make that area more water tight in the future, but for now what do you think my options are? And as for original question "how does water get into the bilge area?" This is still confusing to me.
