First, I would like to report that I actually went up and saw the boat yesterday. She missed me. Weather was warm, but too unstable (thunderstorms in the forecast) to take her out.

While there, I did some trailer maintenance (brakes, etc.). Boat-wise, last time I was up I discovered that the storage facility had apparently re-sealed the roof. They seem to have used a gray material best described as "goo". I know this because it came through some of the holes in the roof and onto the boat.

Today, I took up some asphalt/tar remover I had in the garage (from some car project a few years ago). Purchased it at the local auto parts store. Happily, it plus some elbow grease worked like a charm on the goo and appears to have done no harm to the finish or fiberglass. Of course, I have little hope that the wax in those spots remains, so a re-wax is on the horizon.

Oh, I seriously doubt it. Besides, I do that myself. That way I know it is done right. Needed it anyway here at the beginning of the season. I put that into the 'no harm, no foul' category.

Now, had the goo permanently afixed to my boat.... Hell to pay.

You may want to mention this to the people you rent the storage from. You may not be the only one that received the goo. Others may not be as forgiving as you. If the owner you rent from paid someone to do the roof, I would think the roofers would be responsible. Better he know now instead of later So he can decide how he wants to proceed on this.

Most likely they were up there covering screw holes or punctures in the metal with either polyurethane sealant or acrylic sealant. If it was very hot then it may have run through the hole and onto your boat.
