Only place that seems to have the package with the applicator is West Marine - anyone know where else to get it?

I bought my initial kit from West Marine. Now I just buy the refills online.

You can by it Amazon will ship to you in 2 days with Prime. Also if you do you get the combo kit with the hose mixer be careful, it reduces waterflow a lot. My boat tripped the overheat sensor but I caught in time. I would use it till the flow cup is empty then disconnect and pump straight water thru the engine.
Hope that helps....

Just use Dawn dish soap. I fill my flush adaptor with soap and run each engine 8-10 minutes. I boat in the gulf, swfl, very salty.

I tried Salt terminator with its applicator.
I'll agree with the warnings above..I noticed that when flushing with that there was no water coming out of the pee hole. I talked to my mechanic about it and he told me that the applicator is very restrictive and it will cause an overheat if you run it too long.
He told me to just use a big squirt of dawn down the hose and flush til it stops foaming, so that's what I've been doing since then.
I may just use the rest of the salt terminator along with its applicator to rinse the boat and trailer off after use.

That may have more to do with the water pressure at your house. You may be on the low side. The applicator is of course a little more restrictive than the straight through Yamaha connector but it should not cause any major loss of flow or enough to trip your overheat warning assuming you have a good water pressure supply.

When I bought my boat I would barely have any water coming out of the pissers using the supplied Yamaha hose fitting (no Salt Away applicator). Had to buy a water pressure gauge, found out I was way low on the pressure so I bumped it up at the regulator and now I have no issues with flow while flushing my boat. You should not have to remove the applicator and put back on the Yamaha end just to finish flushing. I would check your water pressure with a gauge and see if it needs adjusting. I've ran my boat for like 10 minutes or more on water and no overheat (I'm supercharged as well).

Salt-away is fantastic, the active ingredient is sulfamic acid, plus some detergents and who knows what. I do not believe there is a viable alternative as good as sulfamic acid for the job, especially for the bulk price.
I’m lazy so I get it from West Marine, use it quite often even though I’m in fresh water. I use a very simple setup, and don’t think the lack of water coming off the pee hole is an issue, as several already stated, as long as you have it flowing out the jets.

Sulfamic acid is a fantastic cleaning agent, I first fell in love with it back in the day when I was a home brewer! It’s used in so many applications for removing rust and limescale/descaling, rather than the more volatile and irritating hydrochloric/muriatic acid, which is however cheaper.
Sulfamic acid has most desirable descaling properties, and is essentially non-toxic (if you worry about your lawn and kids/pets).

The mixer that comes with the kit is restrictive. I can flush both of my motors at the same time without it connected , but only one when it's connected. I don't need to run mine while I flush. So overheating isn't a concern.
It's also made very cheap. Over time the cup won't seal anymore. I wish there was a better mixer alternative. I haven't found one yet, but still looking. I'm on my second Salt-away mixer in 3 yrs.

Yep. There is a thin black o-ring that is very easy to lose.

My o-ring fell it as well. Went to the pool store and got a similar size o-ring then sealed it with windshield adhesive.

And if you drop the mixer on your concrete patio pavers it'll shatter instantly. Guess how I know?
No, you can't just buy a new 6 oz replacement...

If you installed tow valves you can close them before flushing. That forces more water into the upper water jacket rather than most if it draining out at the jets. I also flush in "no wake" mode which gives me a strong flow at the pissers. The no wake will also tell you if you have an overheat as the engine computer will drop you out of no wake automatically in that event.

Not sure why some are having trouble with their Salt Away dispensers. I'm on year 6 with mine with no issues.

I ordered the gallon of Salt-Away. I will put it in the canister for my pressure washer - and use the dish soap trick for the engine flush - I do have low pressure at my home (well water)
