Satellite Messaging on Iphones

For those that boat outside of cell phone coverage, I noticed in the newest IOS 18 update, for Iphone 14 or newer, claims messaging will now work over satellite when there is no cell signal. While this doesn't replace a PLB or EPIRB, it does add a nice layer of communication that falls less than an emergency. I'm mostly thinking of the texts to tell my wife I'll be late because the fishing is so good and I've not run out of bait yet. Of course this also leaves you susceptible to the text of "you need to come back early because of XXX"

Well, the promise of XXX should draw the man back home.

Thats some great info about the sat text ability… I’ve been putting off getting a better iphone mainly for the camera. I’ll have to see what limitations there are if any on that feature.

You beat me to it!!! “XXX” text from the wife and I’m reeling in the lines, slipping the boat for the night and racing home.
