I use silicone/teflon spray, pick it up at local Menards for $3-4. Used to buy it on Amazon, but it became cheap and available everywhere.
One advantage is - it is basically dry after the solvent evaporates, makes no mess. Works great. (as a seat pedestal lubricant)
I use T-9. Sprays on clear, leaves a clear waxy coating for continued lubrication. I would put newspapers around to catch the over spray. I get it at West Marine.
