My hoist was delivered yesterday, and it has the "deluxe" carpeted guide ons.

The boat beam is 8' (96") so I am wondering how far apart I should set them up. Also ideas as to how high (as high as possible, below the water, etc.)

This is my first lift, so I am playing by feel now.

Any chance you can cheat off your trailer bunks?

Those are the side guides to keep the boat centered on the bunks, not the bunks.

If your trailer does not have them then your next best bet is going to be to put the boat on the lift, centered and level, then figuring out where you want the bunks to hit on the boat. If they can hit white fiberglass the rub marks will be far easier to fix / far harder to see.

The chines in your hull will also play a role in bunk placement.

I just had my bunks redone, don't know the measurement but I will say perfectly positioned bunks make all the difference.

As for how high...my lift is plastic with metal sides. So I just lift it until the metal sides are out of the water.

We had storm come through, so no chance to adjust anything yet.
Here it is on the lift initially. The tilt of the bunks are adjustable, but not the spacing. I will widen the back/entry side of the bunks a bit, as there was a bit of rubbing on the rail when it was lowered.

As for lifting, I could raise the boat even further, but I do not see much of a need to. If I raise it fully, then I would need to raise the canopy (support) higher as well.

Nice setup! The hull looks a lot different than what I pictured. I thought the bottom would be much flatter.

You might like this article: http://yachtpals.com/boating-knots-9092. The clove hitch with 2 half hitches will be a lot faster for you.

This is another really good one if you add cleats to your dock (the solar lighted ones would probably look awesome on there at night :)):

Thanks. The rope is just there on the off chance the lift lowers so the boat doesn't float away. Although the clove hitch would be faster.

I thought abuot cleats, but I would need to attache them to the sides of the dock as the top is just plastic/vinyl.
