I think I'm going to grab one of these. Not sure if I want to try the suction cup mount for the transducer (which I think will work pretty killer on the transom of my AR) or the hard mount. Probably will try the suction cup to allow finding a good location easier. Love that it works with a Navionics

Looks pretty cool. I don't fish so kind of pointless, interesting concept though. I just use navionics on my phone.

I've been thinking about trying this thing since I read a review in the spring and was going to post the same question at the beginning of the summer. One bit that I'd be curious to play with is from their product page: "The Skimmer style transducer can be mounted externally on the transom of your boat for high speed use or internally in fiberglass hulls, but you will lose the temp sensor option for in-hull installations."
My main hesitation is that I also don't fish - I'd be more interested in how accurate it is at determining true bottom depth.

I'm in my second season of using the suction cup mounted version. It has worked very well for me. You do have to be careful where you place the transducer - if you don't get it in clean water then it won't work. I worked through that issue last year and so this year I've had no problems with it. I added a couple of usb charging ports to the boat to accommodate the phone and tablet being on for long periods of time as the depth finder screen. I have found it to be very accurate in reading depth - way better than the crappy depth gauge on my AR230. With regards to high speed use, I have had the transducer come off and or rotate out of position.

@McMark Last year when I was having problems I had the transducer mounted about a foot in from the edge below the swim platform. This year I placed it all the way out to the edge of the transom, basically if you are looking at the back of the boat from behind it would be in the bottom right corner. I would place it on, after getting to wherever I was going to fish, by reaching down from the swim platform. Does that make sense? I can take a picture later today if you need it?
