Stock tie down straps

I haven't had a chance to install the new boat buckles yet. The stock tie downs have come out of the mounting point at the break light twice. When pulling the boat out on Friday I made sure they were tight, could hardly close them. They were loose when I got home about 90 miles of 55-70 mph. any tricks to the stock buckles until I get a chance to replace them?

Replace them sooner. They are useless.

When doing long distance towing, make sure boat is winched all the way up with no room to move forward. If u have slack everytime u hit the brake boat moves forward releasing tension on buckles. You should check it regularly too when in rest area , having lunch or fueling

Pretty sure that was my issue the first time. Friday I winched the boat until the hook was under the roller, maybe could've gotten one or two clicks tighter.

In fact, when towing, it is a good practice before you leave to move forward with the tow vehicle a bit and hit the brakes hard a couple of times, then re-tighten the straps (boat buckles or no).

Can't argue with you there. Funny thing picked the boat up in MI, drove it back to VA no problems.

great suggestion. I check mine regularly but never thought to do this
