Hey everyone, I've got a section of really flat gel coat. I've tried oxidation removing compounds, regular waxes, ceramics, Klasse and others with a random orbital polisher and nothing seems to bring back the luster.

Any suggestions on getting this thing glowing again?20191225_112852.jpg20191225_112841.jpg

Aloha @Scuba_ref we just picked up a '18 SX195 that needed some TLC on the hull, I used this 3M product for the areas that were in need of shine, the other areas I started out with a 2000 grit wet sandpaper, working in small batches on the areas that were really dull and wavy. Then hit those areas with the 3M product and it turned out great. The wet sanding really seemed to make the difference. This guy does a decent job of explaining in this video. Good luck!

Meguire’s 105 cutting compound (or an equivalent in 3M product line) should help take care of it without too much risk. Followed by polish/wax.

It is hard to see how bad the oxidation really is in the pictures. It does not look as bad as this,

when I wet sanded for two days. I use Marine 31 and 3m products. I like the Marine 31 heavy cut oxidation remover over the 3m rubbing compound. You can feel the difference rubbing it between your fingers.

A rotary buffer with a wool pad will cut the oxidation better/more than an orbital with a foam pad.
20190430_140806_1.jpg Just keep it moving in an overlapping crossing L-R then up and down linear motion in about 2' sq. areas at a time. You will get that mirror black finish back.

I had to have my black 242 L/S wet sanded to bring back the gloss and now it looks new again.
