Took my jet out for the first time in over a month Sat. Last time out it was running bad, found the plugs to be fouled, this is a 240 hp injected 2-smoke Merc, changed plugs and every thing seemed good as I left the dock Idled 5 min out to the cut that heads out to the Mississippi and boat jumped right up to 45 feeling good so I hammered down and BANG this 20170820_122221.jpg My daughter has a place on the river and was there in 10 min. to tow me back so it could have been worse. Loaded up and drove the hour home, grabbed my prop boat and drove the hour back and enjoyed the day. Sunday pulled the head on that bank and found the piston seized and a lot of carbon build up in that cylinder 20170820_164757.jpg I'm thinking that o ring Merc uses for head gaskets was leaking water into that cylinder as there also is rust in the bore. Other 2 cylinders look perfect as I'm sure the other bank does also the motor turns easy as far as it will rotate. Anybody got any other ideas? Going to run me 4 to 5 grand for a reman shortblock as I will fix it, boat is in to good condition otherwise. Wife says it's okay if I buy a new jet boat even if I did just by a new 175 txw tracker 3 months ago, think I better keep her :D
