When we get a real warm summer in northern MN we’ll occasionally have a 100+ year old logged timber pop up in the lake based the lakes history as a thoroughfare to the Mississippi. This past weekend we were out surfing and heard a thunk and sure enough hit a submerged deadhead about 2 ft or so below the water’s surface (18’ in length, 15 inch diameter and probably close to 1,500 lbs). No injuries to the surfer or the boat, but the wakebooster took a hit that’s going to require a trip to the fabricator.

Always a story to be made at the end of the season, last year it was an unmarked rock vs. the keel and this year 100 year old log vs. wakebooster. Fun times.

*a log we pulled earlier this summer even had loggers mark from around 1910 which is when logging ended on our lake and the dam went in.

What a pain in the ash. (Sorry for the bad joke.) Seriously that sucks. Glad no one was hurt. I banged up a prop pretty good on a submerged floater on my last boat. Scared the hell out of us because we couldn’t see anything until it popped up down river about 15 feet.
