I was replacing the scupper valve today and pulled the exhaust hose for access. I look down and there is water in the muffler. How concerned should I be? The hose connections seemed pretty tight, so I am worried it came in through the intake and through the engine when one of my manhole covers blew out last week. The engine starts fine. Is there any preventitave measures I can/should take as far as water in the engine?

Welcome @Sparta. I think I'm reading your post correctly. Water in the exhaust is normal. That's how it keeps the exhaust system cool. In fact the mufflers are often referred to as water boxes. This is where the water collects before it is sent out of the boat with the exhaust. It seems that no matter how many times I've "fired up the engines" after coming off the lake, there's always a bit of water remaining in there.

Hope that helps you out.

Wow, color me embarrassed. Thank you! I'm still learning. Here is another dumb queston - I emptied most of the water out. Should I add any back in? Or will it be ok next time I drop it back in the water? Thanks again!

You need to look in the faq tab for "how cooling water flows thru engine"
It's a great video

No need to put it back in. The jet pump actually circulates water through the engine and exhaust while on the water. In fact, you want to blow out as much water as possible (by firing up the engines for a few seconds while out of the water) prior to storage. So you're fine.
