I have a 2020 AR195 and wanted to add trailer guides, like the title says....Would you do 40" or 60" guides? I really like the look of the 40" guides but curious if I would regret it. Also for those that did lighted guides, was it worth it? I'm debating on leaving it simple and doing no lights, main reason would be to have less issues in the future with wiring etc.

I got these from amazon. went with the 40"

IMHO the 60's are easier to pick up and guide to, just a personal thing though, we are older and need all the cues we can get :nailbiting:

I went with the 60 and have plenty of visibility backing down a particular difficult ramp near me. This ramp you have to pull far to the left, then make a full reverse 45 degree between parked trucks and a fenced in garbage area and head downhill 75 yards to the dual launch ramp. It’s a mess and the 60 inches give me a wide angle to where my trailer tires are exactly. Also the taller guides will allow the boat to contact the guide pads with the rub rail instead of the side of the boat when recovering. These are ve-ve with the hyperlite covers. 5D19C822-A75E-46D0-81BF-29BF50C94A3A.jpeg

I have the 60 as well and glad I did when I visit ramps with a sharp break. Cutting them down would be easy and take 5 minutes.

Got my CE Smith guides today and installed them. My hyper lite covers come on Tuesday. Question for you guys, how far away from the boat do you set them? I have them about 1” out on both sides.

I'm at about 5" off each side and mounted them below the trailer frame. I seem to recall that midships is wider than at the sterm. Also, it gives me a bit of wiggle room before I hit them while loading. 95% of the time, I don't touch them while loading, but use them mostly to back up the trailer.

I got the Veve 65" and just FYI if you're fitting it into a garage make sure you mount them under the frame instead of the more common over the frame method. Found that out the hard way and didn't feel like cutting them down lol.

Why would mounting under the frame make a difference for going in a garage? I do have mine in a garage but have the 40" guides

Edit: I'm assuming because they would sit too high but I have the 40" so I'll be good

Correct the 65" are like 3 inches too tall when mount on top of the trailer frame vs below.

I recommend the guides in the attached pic. They are only 50” but the bigger the better IMHO, especially in really deep/steep ramps.

The other reason I recommend these guides in the pics is because they are a single piece instead of extensions of the metal mounting arms attached to the trailer. As such they bend and flex quite a bit instead of bend and stay that way or break like their metal counter parts may do.

I also find the bend built into them helps center the boat faster. It also doesn’t hurt that they are less expensive than other Models.

I have had mine for over 10 years and moved them from one trailer to another because they have been bent forwad, backward and side to side with lots of force but have not yet failed on me and I’ve never had to modify or repairs them.

Got the 40" first time then went to the 65". Much easier to see when backing down a ramp. When the trailer is under water, the higher ones are visible to drive the boat on to the trailer while the 40" was under water. The lights on the top are also a nice touch.

Went with VE-Ve 47 inch, I didn't want really tall guides. Ve-ve are very well made and strong, I highly recommend them. Seem much stronger than many of the others I've seen on Amazon, etc. I modified to address steeper ramps and times when I'd need a higher guide. I drilled holes 16" up from the PVC "stop" and got pins from Lowe's. Works perfectly and allows me to have the shorter profile whenever height is not needed. Sprayed newly drilled holes with rustoleum zinc to help prevent rust down the road.

I purchased the VeVe 65” guides and would like to add Yamaha branded covers. Any suggestions where to find them appreciated.

I am pretty good at obeying Murphy's Law, so I can imagine myself backing too close and too deep and getting the 40s wedged under a pier. I have had 60s for a long time and without issues.

I went with 47" VE-VE, no lights. Nice and tall, so no chance a wave will push the boat over in rough weather, and they're clearly visible when backing up the trailer without a boat on it.
