Being from Philadelphia, and growing up a birds fan. I had to try this just to say I did and to keep the bottle with a bunch of my other Eagles things. I do not suggest getting it if you want something smooth. This turned out to be a great mixing bourbon, but not a sipper. At least I can say I tried it, however I will not be getting it again.
Picked up a bottle of Rabbit Hole Dareringer. I’ve overlooked Rabbit Hole in the past, but I won’t be anymore. It might make my shortlist of nightly go-to whiskey.

Claire and I are driving to Louisville for a military reunion and would like to visit a few distilleries when we are there. I would prefer small distilleries that make very good sipping bourbon over the more commercialized ones . As I am not a big bourbon drinker I would be willing to splurge on one or two excellent bottles. Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

not really sure about the more small time, local distilleries in the area but Ive always held an interest in getting down there to visit the Michters Fort Nelson Distillery & Old Forester Distilling.. both in the downtown area and walkable weather pending, and Ive heard they're both solid tours w/ tastings.. && distillery exclusive bottles for sale if you're lucky! enjoy man

Depending on what you’re after, we have used Mint Julip tour in the past about 4 times and have hit most all of the distilleries in the Louisville/ Lexington area. If you’re interested in the distillery process once you see it a few times, you’ll get the jist of it.
if you want smaller, check out whiskey thief or maybe the old Taylor distillery. If you go to old Taylor, check out woodford reserve. Regardless of which distillery you hit you will have some good sipping!
i know you said smaller distilleries....but, one trip there, we went out to the jim beam distillery and got to walk through one of their rickhouses. the smell inside is incredible. oh and i can still picture mila kunis standing in there.

Jeptha Creed has a great atmosphere. In between Louisville and Frankfort. Rabbit Hole is downtown and a very modern looking distillery. Just the sheer beauty of all these distilleries is well worth a drive . 4 Roses was another great one Take Pics
