Check our clean out port? Maybe you have something in the jet pump?

If the impeller is turning and you have a good seal with the plug in, you will have thrust. Did you check to make sure your bucket is coming up?

Then it is one of 3 things.
1) Your clean out port is not making a good seal or is not in right.
2) There is something in your impeller or in the intake that is blocking or restricting flow.
3) Your bucket is staying closed or partially open.
4) Not likely and Highly not probable on a new boat is that you have a broken shaft, or the impeller splines of all been striped off.

Pull the boat and get under it and look at the intake grate and impeller.

I'm wondering if that bucket isn't doing what is supposed to cause as the RPM increased more water was moving more intensely

The issue is the dock is many bays away from an open access and I'm worried of making it

Don't you carry Oars/Paddles? Or an extension Pole?

Maybe have another boat tow you over to the ramp.

Are you absolutely sure that you have the Clean Out plug in correctly and "Locked" into place?

TBH, that is what it sounds like to me. I have went out and forgot to lock them in and one time one was crooked and I had the same experience.

You don't need a new one, just a rebuild kit. Also you should lubricate them every couple of outings. I use a pool gasket lubricant. Others use other things, just search the forum.

I had the same (or VERY similar) problem last summer...was a month into ownership of a '15 AR190 (about 100 hours at the time). Fought like hell to pull the manhole cover (ended up filling the cavity with ice in an attempt to get something to contract a bit), it was clean in there. Had to order a rebuild kit because it wouldn't go back in (I now keep an extra on the boat). Bounced all of this off the manager at my marina, which has a shockingly high %age of Yamaha jet boats, and he suggested swapping the plugs. That fixed the issue for me.
