    Thrust Problems - Yamaha 212

With 2 engines . I would think it is just one , try each one separately and see if there is any big difference between the 2 especially the one with the bent impeller, Yamaha drive shafts do break on occasion and if something went into the pump that damaged the impeller it could break a shaft...

Question about cavitation and max rpm

A boat of that year having top r p m's of a small variation is not a problem what is the issue you are experiencing aside from just a small variation at top end r p m, I mean if it runs good leave it alone. and by now if the impellers and pump liners are original it is probably time to...

Metallic rattling from the prop after stick removal

Are you sure it did not sound like that before? As the bearings wear there is slightly greater play in those bearings and it can cause the pump to make a rattling noise. Sometimes the pump can swell a little behind the stainless steel ring and cause the impeller to touch the sleeve and make a...

Metallic rattling from the prop after stick removal

Thanks for the advice. I figured it was likely nothing but it was near silent when I checked before heading out that morning. The only change was the stick getting stuck. The shaft has no wiggle, nor the prop nor the ring (as best I could with the grate on and pump assembled). The boat shook...

    Jet Drive seems to Slip

if you accelerate very slowly and it picks up speed but when you hit the throttle to accelerate and it slips like tires on ice, you have either a bad or worn impeller or a bad liner or both causing cavitation or you have something in the pump or wrapped around the drive shaft but that will...

Boat/Engine down on general performance, ideas?

Before you pull the pump I would check the clearance between each impeller blade and the liner. Thinking one blade may have a slight bend in it due to impact. Are there any rub mark's on your liner indicating a possible impact to an impeller blade?

stranded...thought starter went, turns out to be a stuck pump

I was out in the water this weekend...in Hawaii, about 5 miles from the ramp when I decided to fire up the engines and head home. Sun was fading and the day was over...kids were spent. Fired up the starboard engine and then tried to start the port. Just a loud click from the solenoid...

    Yamaha 242 limited

@Tom Denion you are correct that these boats are easy to work on. Sounds like your mechanic doesn't know how to work on jet pumps. This should be a pretty easy problem to diagnose, the members above all have great suggestions. This will likely end up being one of the following: Clean out...

    Yamaha Boat,not fast enough??

I also agree 39 is on the slow side @Kyle Walker. Double check that speed with a GPS as the speedometer pick up may have some sand or debris causing a lower indication. When was the last time you changed the spark plugs? New plugs seem to correct a lot of unexplained problems with these motors...
