    I have an 8' fiberglass that is connected to my Horizon GX 1700. I lower the antenna when the radio is not in use. You can get a little clip that holds the antenna tight into the boat.

    I also have the Horizon GX 1700 with built in GPS. It replaced my old one that was only GPS ready. It is an awesome radio with many features.
