195fsh sport trolling motor and gps/fish finder

You can see my equipment in my signature - plus I have 2 AGM batts with a built-in shore charger to power the trolling motor. Spot Lock is the best; we only use the real anchor and shore spike off of beaches.

    Wax vs. Ceramic

FWIW, Griot's 3 in 1 Ceramic Spray On Wax will not dull or form white residue on any surface (including rubber and glass).

    Southeast Georgia Boaters

Boating in the Hilton Head/Savannah/ Richmond Hill areas is of course all salt water, and each area has its own sand bar locations (Savannah - inside north tip Wassaw and inside south tip Little Tybee, Richmond Hill - St. Catherine's, Hilton Head - I do not know, but I am sure they have one or...

    Beaching Jet boat

Never - 8 ft tides. I use the regular anchor with an Anchor Buddy (big bungee cord) and a Sand Spike. Back in close to the beach after setting the main anchor, and then hold the boat by hand during unloading with engine off. Afterwards, play out Sand Spike line as the boat is pulled into...

Fell Marine MOB+ Dual Engine Wiring?

I connected in Parallel because: 1) I still can use the regular lanyard if I want to (if I ever find myself in truly bad seas I might want both or if the FELL system fails I can deactivate it with the By-Pass plug and use the regular lanyard) and 2) it seemed like a good idea at the time (the...

Fell Marine MOB+ Dual Engine Wiring?

BTW, if you are connecting in Parallel, you will need to buy some bigger connectors. I could not use the included ones for the three wire connections. Also, FWIW, I got power from an unused accessory switch on the console.

Fell Marine MOB+ Dual Engine Wiring?

I installed the FELL MOB on my FSH 190, and it should be almost the same installation for you. You, of course, have the multi-engine harness to install too. You take the regular harness that came with the unit (screws into the back of the unit). You would do the following: 1) Red to Power...

    Wax vs. Ceramic

I am in Salt only for 3.5+ years, and any good synthetic wax will probably last one year. I like to use Griot's One (polish and wax in one) to brighten the finish and remove minor marks and residue. FWIW, I spray my hull and interior with Salt Off, and I let it work while I flush the engine...

Backup Kill Switch Keys and Lanyards

Wahoo (UVA undergrad) - it looks like I am the safest. :winkingthumbsup" I find it amusing, because I only bought the FELL system to ward off a ticket from an LEO that should be concentrating on the overwhelming sources of boating accidents and death - alcohol and reckless boating.

Backup Kill Switch Keys and Lanyards

In terms of how the FELL system works, it does the following: you can move around the boat at least up to 50 feet without it shutting the engine(s) down (in the open, you would have less range if you had a cabin and etc.), if the FOB is submerged in water more than a couple of inches it...

    Battery switches

You only use the parallel connection if your Start battery is too weak to crank the boat. If you do use the parallel connection, you would want to return to normal mode after cranking. Doing so allows the alternator to send all of it charge to the Start battery first (until it is charged)...

Backup Kill Switch Keys and Lanyards

I installed the Fell Marine MOB system; it was easy. I bought a neck lanyard for the FOB, and I bought another FOB and wrist holder. Everything was under $300. With the planned enforcement of the new lanyard law by the USCG and others, the total cost is probably equal to a ticket. Also, you...

    BoatUS or NBOA for Tow?

FWIW, my BoatUS policy limits for towing/trailer assist: Boat towing $3K and trailer assist $1.5K per incident (should be enough for anything.

    BoatUS or NBOA for Tow?

A $150 limit, even in fresh water, would not be a good idea. FWIW, I went through BoatUS for my insurance (Geico), and it includes towing/trailer assist as part of the insurance. My towing covers me in the US up to 75 miles off the coast. My total cost is just over $300 for 32K hull and 500K...

What did you do to your boat today?

I took the FSH 190 to the dealer (I am still under warranty - got a free additional 3yrs from Yamaha when I bought it) for the Annual Service (oil/filter, spark plugs, read the computer, grease things like the steering cables and etc.). I dropped it at 8:50 am, and it was ready around 11 am. I...

Newbie question on navigating chop in Chesapeake Bay

I have a 19 ft., and 1-2 chop is not a problem. As the others have noted, go faster to get on plane, and everything will smooth out. My boat planes at about 20, and we typically run at 28-32 mph. (I hold 6500 RPMs, and weight and conditions decide where in the 28-32 range where we are). From...

    break-in period (or not)

The chances that you be will be fine are in the high 90s% range; do not worry about it. People do not do what is recommended for various equipment (cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, tractors and etc.) all of the time (including throughout the equipment's life span), and the vast majority never...

    How do you rinse inside?

I do the following: spray down everything with salt neutralizing solution (using a garden hose end sprayer), let it sit while I flush the engine with solution, then wash everything with wash and wax soap, hose everything off ..... Oh, I am sorry - I have a center console :winkingthumbsup"

    Clean up aluminum parts

Post some photos for better advice, but a good place to start is with some metal polish that is safe for all metal surfaces. You probably will be able to accomplish a lot with just the polish and a microfiber pad by hand, but you may need a Buff Ball (sponge like ball that attaches to a power...

What did you do to your boat today?

I installed a FELL Marine MOB hub/system. It fit perfectly in the Ritchie Compass hole, and that was fine as the compass had failed again (2nd compass leaked fluid like the first). I will not have to worry about getting a ticket under the new lanyard law - it is easy to forget and especially...
