2008 SX230 Jet Unit Overhaul (Transom Plate)

I think the transom plate is thought of as part of the hull on assembly more than a replaceable part.... How bad does it look? Can you post pictures? There's a good lip on it... Should seal with the pump well.

    Where to buy carburetor

Get the carburator model and hit the web until you find a great price. Mikuni carbs from OEM can be double and triple the price of the same carb from another seller, I suspect the same is true for others.

    Higher hour boat

I think time and corrosion are a bigger factor in the rebuild needs than hours alone. One engine was rebuilt already... Do you know failure cause? (Corrosion or failure for other reason?) If you had it since new....50 per year would place it at 350 by now, and 50 coming this season, which is...

    $1200 MPEM, am I right?

Did you use the ground from somewhere else? Or straight from the bottom of the coil?

    $1200 MPEM, am I right?

Check connections to battery. Aren't there other grounds or 12v cables?

    $1200 MPEM, am I right?

If the added troubleshooting light blinks, you have spark signal and your computer should be fine, and the issue would be the coil. (Or a connection from to the coil) How did you determine you have no spark??

    $1200 MPEM, am I right?

So here's what I would try.... Follow the spark plug cable to the black box next to the engine, then find the big coil sending power to the spark plugs. There's a thin small cable going to that coil too. That is a signal line telling the coil when to send the charge.... Hook up a 12v light bulb...

    $1200 MPEM, am I right?

2 beeps is good Put a 12v led in the line going to the coil. Does it blink when you crank? If so it's the external coil (with the big wires going to the spark plugs inside the electrical box) Did it flood recently? Did you open the black electrical boxes where the coil is? Is the box dry? I...

    Dealer Maintenance

Not a bad idea to open and inspect after 300 hours... BUT With Yamaha's design the pump seals are not serviceable without a full rebuild of all bearings, since everything is pressed in. So once you open it up, if you see any water intrusion signs, the correct action to fix is to replace...

04 sx230 low rpm stbd motor

Fantastic news!!!!! If it's not coil or fuel or throttle body... It's valves or cylinder compression. Injectors are much easier to change and less disruptive, fantastic news indeed.

    Need a Part for 2004 230sx Yamaha

Sorry to hear, it is rare a whole harness needs replacement. Is there a reason it cannot be repaired? Best of Luck.

2004 SX230 Jet Pump coupler slop

Even with no dampener in place, the pump bearing side should not move right?? That's why I think it's not the dampener.

2004 SX230 Jet Pump coupler slop

I have not yet had the pleasure of needing this job, but with that piece being pressed into the bearing, etc. that is indicative of failed/failing bearing on the pump side of that coupler. I would suggest watching carefully on next outing and keeping an eye for water ingress or suspect noises...

SX 190 clicks but won't turn over

Starter or Solenoid. Check voltage at solenoid and if voltage is good, jump. If it cranks it's the solenoid, if not, might be the starter. If you wack the starter with a large hammer and it cranks, it's very probably the starter.

    NGK CR9EB spark plugs

I've Always applied anti seize. And dielectric grease on top. As long as they are tight and you don't chew the thread over-tightening you will be in good shape. 7ftlb or 11, or half turn after contact... If they are tight and don't back out, and you don't damage the thread ... It's good enough...

    Getting swamped by cruise ship

Very very large swells are easy... A gentle bump on the road, adjust speed accordingly.... But when the swell exits the dredged area and hits a shallow spot, as the wave lifts from the bottom, it will eventually rise enough to break... That wave will look gnarly and will really mess with you if...

EV discussion - hate or love?

I'm with you. I think it's the desire to justify the increased price. The 2 features I dislike the most from my Model Y are frameless windows (which require the glass to move on every operation. Not the first car ever to do this, but WHY?) and "Too smart to get out of your own way" cruise...

    OVERHEATING SX230

Might be as simple as kinked hose or low pressure when you rinsed. I have added temp sensors in exhaust and water past the thermostat. The system is very sensitive to water pressure. The exhaust pipe temps are excellent indicators, and cool quickly once water flow is restored.
