New JB - What to look for in a 2007 SX230

Regarding compression, take it for a ride and if both motors hit 10k RPM and you are anywhere near 50mph, you have healthy motors. In this case I myself would not bother with a compression check unless you want the piece of mind.

Pump Bearings Service Intervals / Replacemant

The problems with the pre-2011 Kawi 250/260/300 pumps was when the bearings go out, the axial force would walk the pump shaft into the motor and destroy the thrust washers, then everything goes boom. Just look on eBay for Kawi cases--most have thrust washer ledges that are destroyed. In...

Pump Bearings Service Intervals / Replacemant

Over the years I've used both plain old wheel bearing grease and the method of Amsoil synthetic grease mixed into a slurry with synthetic gear oil. They work. But lately switched to Maxima waterproof grease on the advice of a few folks at greenhulk.net. Seems to be working fine and easy to get...

Need help with cavitation on Yamaha VX Cruiser

If there are no obvious debris, pull the pump and check wear ring clearance, and the condition of the impeller. Post pics here. You can also try pulling and then sealing the pump shoe. -Greg

Which is more important fogging or flushing with antfreeze.

Agree with @Julian about the water box. Regarding fogging... BY FAR the most common problem with an MR1 sitting for a long period of time is rust forming on the valve stems and then valves sticking inside the valve guides. Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do to coat the valves inside the...

    Hurricane Florence Prep

When I prepped for Harvey last year, I strapped the cradles and lift slings to the pilings to prevent them from swaying. And I took a bunch of pictures for a record of the pre-storm state. I am also with an insurance company that covers our boat house (not many insurance companies cover...

Question about MSRP on a new boat and lift suggestions.

I doubt there is any way to stop the boat from being squeezed, except to use a cradle type lift. My Bayliner sat in it for a couple of years (outside of occasional use). After I put it on the trailer, and it sat for about a week, the window started closing fine. -Greg

Question about MSRP on a new boat and lift suggestions.

Mine stays year round in a sling lift, which works pretty well and is relatively inexpensive (as opposed to the dock around it which was not.) :-) It's also really easy to pull the boat in, position it, and then lift it out of the water. I can do it myself even with 1'-2' chop rolling in. The...

2015 AR240 Port Engine crank but no start...Please help

Air, fuel, spark (and compression). It sounds like you've checked all this except compression. You don't necessarily need a gauge--just pull the plugs and put your finger over the hole while cranking. As others have said, possible broken timing chain. -Greg

    First time boat buyer

@PaulyB had a 2006 AR230 for sale within your budget. Not sure if it's near you, or still available: https://jetboaters.net/threads/2006-yamaha-ar230-for-sale-in-va-13k.19082/ Normally aspirated 4-stroke will give you the best reliability by far. Stay away from anything 2-stroke or...

Too much oil or bad fuel injector 2006 Yamaha AR230

The oil level in the reservoir can rise significantly after the motor has been running for a minute or two (depending on how long it has been off). Always let the motor warm up before checking the oil level. Checking cold can you a false reading. -Greg

    GP1800?

Buy it! I would love to have one myself, but am too cheap to buy a new ski. I have 5 skis, but nothing newer than 2009: (2) Yamaha SUV 4-stroke conversions, 2009 Yamaha VX, 2006 Kawi 12F, and a mid-80s Kawi stand-up. I've been bugging my buddy to buy a GP1800 so I can ride it sometimes! Too bad...
