Buying my first Yamaha and seeking advice

I bought my 2008 AR210 last year, which has twin MR1 110hp engines and sits in a lift 100% of the time. I don't have a frame of reference to talk of the newer boats, except my dreaming while at the boat show. Pretty happy with the 2008 compared to my last stern drive boat. I also have 5 skis, a...

    Wifi Extender

Sorry, just saw this. I've had them for about 6 months. Zero issues. One even sits in a hot garage. I've not tried security cameras with them, but don't see why that would be a problem. Our Internet speed is plenty fast enough to support HD streams. -Greg

Who has cut the Cable TV cord...what are you using now?

It used to be like that at our lake house. Windstream DSL at 1.5mbps, going down for hours whenever it rained. Could barely stream Netflix. Mobile hotspots will go 8mbps, except they have data caps. A new wireless company entered the market about a year ago, started putting up towers and...

Who has cut the Cable TV cord...what are you using now?

We cut cable TV about 4 years ago, and have been with several of the providers since: Initially had OTA (over-the-air) TiVo, which worked pretty good, until the major internet TV providers started local channels. Now we dropped the TiVo. Have dumped all Roku's, Apple TV, Chromecast in favor of...

    TR1 vs TR2

Just to be clear, the rentals are/were mostly the VX platform which is the 8000 rpm non-HO 110hp version of the MR1s. -Greg

    Ethanol Free or not?

I pay $1 more a gallon for ethanol free, but only because it's convenient. My boat is in a slip, and the fuel is on the water. I don't need to slug a bunch of five-gal fuel cans down the hill. If I trailered all the time, I would just fill up with 87 octane at the pump and add stabilizer, like...

    AR190 impeller/sleeve replacement costs

I would not replace anything that is not broken. Use a propane torch to heat up the impeller threads, and it will come off much easier. -Greg

    AR190 impeller/sleeve replacement costs

Pull the pump, take some pics and post here for a diagnosis. You might very well need an impeller, but the stainless wear rings are pretty darn tough. It's an aluminum housing with a stainless sleeve--takes a lot to damage them. It's also possible you chipped the impeller vanes. But unless...

    replacement scupper valve

I bought this one: https://www.replacementboatparts.com/stainlesssteellongscupper112hose.aspx I used 3M 5200 to seal it in. Had trouble getting the scupper hose back on and had to expand it a little with a muffler expander tool, then it slipped right on. When using sealant, it a job for 2...

    Wifi Extender

The Google mesh routers get great reviews on Amazon. I went with the Tenda Nova as they also had great reviews, and I'm a cheap a$$. :-) They have been working very good for me. -Greg

Removing 3M 5200 and my steering cable

If you ever need to remove 5200, or the beige/gray Yamaha glue, use a heat gun. It will soften right up and allow removal. Also, if you know the nut size, you can get individual GearWrench pass-thru sockets on Amazon. Grab it with a pair of large pliers. -Greg

    Huge Power Loss

If insurance pays for it, hopefully you can get away with just paying the deductible. But really, $15k for a motor replacement is highway robbery. You can get a replacement SBT motor w/2 yr warranty for $3500 + labor to replace, which should be no more than $1500...

    Any 2 stroke experts?

This is the thread here. Impressive. http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=231543 He even used the pre-2010 VX bearing housings. There must have been fiberglass work involved. If you use the 2010+ VX pump setup, it's a bolt on, except for moving the motor mounts. I say that, but...
