Engine oil leak on Starboard MR 1 engine?

Could have been some oil that spilled over while filling the reservoir, and moved around while you were running the boat? As @Scottintexas said, take a clean paper towel and pat the bottom side of the motor. See if you can find a leak. -Greg

    Too few hours?

The total in the ECU will not go past 655, so the only way to calculate is to add up the hours at the 2k intervals. I am not certain, but I think once one of those intervals exceeds 655, then you really can't reliably calculate the hours. Might be time for an hour meter on the motor. Something...

    Too few hours?

This is entirely plausible. Every week I drive by two consignment lots here in Houston and wonder why those boats are sitting out in the hot sun and rain all day, every day without a cover. We're talking nice boats... expensive wakeboard boats. -Greg

    Too few hours?

If it's clean, looks like 22 hours, and a test run pegs max RPMs, ~10k on a HO and ~8k on a non-HO, BUY IT! You have healthy motors. No need for a compression check. The ECU uses a 16-bit number for hours... meaning the ECU won't record more than 655.35 total hours. However the RPM log will...

    Water leaking from stbd motor!

Great choice if you have the time. I'll be very interested to hear the diagnosis. -Greg

    Water leaking from stbd motor!

@Lawrence Gill Jr Good deal you checked that. In part of the video it looked like some water was squirting form the hose. But I do remember your other photo where it looked like water stains from the area you say the block was cracked. I'll be very curious to find out from the dealer why the...

    Got to love Costco

I love Costco as well. I have several friends that swear by their car buying program. Costco will negotiate a price with the dealer that you and I could never do. -Greg

    Water leaking from stbd motor!

@Lawrence Gill Jr Yours looks to be squirting from cooling hose in parts of the video. Hard to see, though. Did you check the hose clamps? -Greg

    Water leaking from stbd motor!

@I know You know It sure looks like the bolts that hold the muffler to the manifold are not tight from the factory. Try tightening them to see if the leak goes away. Ideally they should be torqued, but I don't have a TR1-based service manual to check the spec. Use a 1/4" drive so you don't over...

    Water leaking from stbd motor!

My guess is that Yamaha wants the dealer to conduct due diligence to make a determination of cause. Was it malicious? Water ingestion due to sinking? Was the intake clogged and the boat overheated? You know it's none of this, but they don't know. The result could trigger an insurance event...

    Snap-on cover vs. Mooring cover

Same here... my last boat had a snap-on cover and it took a lot longer to install than my new Yamaha mooring cover. When installing, you are constantly having tug-n-snap; not too difficult, but I can put on my Yamaha mooring cover in 1/4 the time it would take to put on the snap-on cover. -Greg

    Water leaking from stbd motor!

@Lawrence Gill Jr any updates on a timeframe from the dealer? If the block is cracked it might be a manufacturing or assembly defect (wrong bolt torque) or overheating... it would be nice to know a diagnosis. My assumption would be Yamaha would ship a new long block to the dealer, and then the...

    Mooring cover ordered

Yeah, I'm not sure why they don't have that boat posted yet. You could call them, but you might just need to order from www.yamahasportsplaza.com. -Greg

    Flushing a 2018 SX190

When I had my place in Galveston, I would flush after every use. But now that I'm freshwater on a lift, I never flush. I do, though, when out of the water, start the motors for a few seconds and throttle up to blow out as much water as possible out of the water boxes. As @itsdgm says it can help...

    Mooring cover ordered

@Jameson Clark Click Shop By Brand -> Yamaha -> Boats -> Year -> Boat Model. But I see there is no 212X there... might need to look at the 2016 then.

Family has close call with Rattlesnake on Fontana Lake NC.

Hard to tell for sure unless you see the head and belly better, but from the pic, it sure does look like a cottonmouth. They are elusive. Up where we are there's a guy nearby that is a snake expert and he says in the 15 years he's lived on Livingston, he's seen hundreds of diamondback water...

Family has close call with Rattlesnake on Fontana Lake NC.

A couple of weeks ago I walked out to our boat house around 9:30PM just to check on things. I had a flashlight and while I was walking up to the boat.... whoaaa! A big snake on the deck of the boat house, wrapped around the piling where we lower the boat. Scared the crap out of me. It looked...

Warm weather, oh momma crabbin has been good!!!

We used to have a canal house in Galveston's West End--Jamaica Beach, TX. Our routine was to get there Friday afternoon, drop the trap in the canal, and then Saturday morning we'd be eating crab omelets! I do miss that! -Greg
