At what point an impeller duct needs replacement

I never saw pics of the duct or impeller, just the wear ring. The stainless wear ring itself is very thin. Measure the inside diameter and compare once you get the new ones. It's not uncommon to see a few drops in there, seeping past the o-ring. Did the pump rotate smooth or rough? FYI, some...

HELP! , Port engine not staying cranked.

To start, check voltage on the positive to the starter during cranking.

HELP! , Port engine not staying cranked.

I've seen plenty of 65Us with a lean seizure when warm, but will still turn over when cold. As you say, could also be the starter relay or starter, or as simple as a corroded ground, corroded positive connection to the starter or even a weak battery. -Greg

    Safety question - unpleasant

I wonder if she fell off the seat, with her legs on the swim deck and her ass below the deck. Maybe still trying to hold on to the grab handle. That would do it.

HELP! , Port engine not staying cranked.

These are the 65U NPV motors, right? I'm reading your first post, and it sounds like it's not cranking once the engine gets warm? Can you do a compression check? -Greg

    Cooling water impellar replacement

I use a light coating of marine grease on all pump, pump shoe or ride plate bolts. I'm sure there are differences of opinion here, but IMHO I think you are asking for trouble removing them just for the sake of removing them. I would just wait until you need to, and then use plenty of heat. -Greg

At what point an impeller duct needs replacement

That's the wear ring (aka impeller housing), and yours appears fine. The stainless wear rings last a long, long time. Salt water boats can develop a bubble in the wear ring, but that takes a while... years. The impeller duct is the pump itself. What you want to measure is the clearance between...

    Beautiful Sunday, Lake Livingston, TX

@captras pics look great. We made a day of it last Thu, Jul 5 from our place on White Rock (Camp Olympia area) down to Pine Island in the morning for a couple of hours, up to Farmhouse for lunch about 1:00, then back up to White Rock by 3:30. Awesome day for the 7 of us. Everybody had lots of...

    Cooling water impellar replacement

Okay because you are from MO and a freshwater boat. Don't try this with a saltwater boat without plenty of heat. Those 10mm bolts on the strainer snap easily. -Greg

    Cooling water impellar replacement

Agreed. If the mechanic thinks the boat has an impeller for cooling, then you need a new mechanic. There is no cooling impeller on the Yamaha boats. He's going to be throwing parts at it. Intake strainer is going to be that little rectangular box on the side of the pump. -Greg

Do steering cables become "unstiff" if worked with?

In my experience, any kind of lubricant sprayed/forced through the cable will work temporarily, but will eventually pickup dust/dirt and then get bad over time. The casing is often split somewhere allowing water intrusion and then rust. The cables are relatively inexpensive, and pretty easy to...

    Sucked up a stick

I would just run it. But if you want to fix it, compare to the other prop. Fixing a ripple or bend in the trailing edge is similar to re-pitching. Remove the prop from the shaft, put it in a vice, then we use a large crescent wrench to straighten it slowly. Or, Impros can fix (long wait this...

    YS-CD-13/19 or YG-DF-14/20 <what impeller pitch?>

There should be no repair issues with that impeller. SBT does a nice job with their impeller exchange program for a good price. Check with them to see if they have an exchange in stock and can ship right away. https://www.shopsbt.com/jetski/IMPELLER_TEMP.html -Greg

Another Yamaha added to the stable!

That's awesome. Would be great to hear how she likes the EX Deluxe as I'd like to recommend that ski to folks that are always asking me what to buy. Did you get the extended warranty? -Greg

There's a couple of threads on greenhulk.net about FXHOs dumping fuel out of an injector. I think one guy traced it down to water in the ECU, and another a wiring issue. You can do some searches over there.
