Yamaha Extended Warranty Do I need?

I think it depends on how you use your boat vs what the cost is. I got it. Here's why... There are two dealers in the Bay Area & Sacramento. The closest is 60 miles away from home, so it's 3 hours round trip. I also typically take the boat to a lake for a long weekend, then it goes into...

2020 190 FSH Top Speed and RPM

Put your location into your profile so we can help. Top speed is a relative term as it can be affected by elevation, wind, current, and load on the boat. Change any of these parameters, and your speed will vary. Case in point, I've seen my speed vary on the same heading on the same run on Lake...

Clean Out Plugs In or Out When Not in Use in the Water?

I've had 2 Yamaha's and wet slip my boat in Lake Tahoe over the summers. When the boat is on the trailer, I remove the plugs and let them sit loose in their sleeves. When the boat is in the water I put the plugs in at the beginning of the weekend and remove them at the end. When we are away...

Brand new Yamaha AR 190 settlement cracks

Try a different dealer if there's one around. I had small spider cracks about every 12" in the fiberglass along the bottom of windshield on my 09. Yamaha said it looked like the holes in the fiberglass didn't match up correctly with the windshield and fixed it under warranty. It took about a...

    JetBoatPilot swim platform seats?

My 09 didn't have any cushions on the swim deck and the 17 does. One thing I don't like about the Yamaha cushions back there is water is ALWAYS under them. So much so that when I either leave the boat in the slip or take it out of the water, I have a few pieces of pool noodle cut in half that...

Anchoring your boat when on a houseboat vacation

When house boating up on Lake Shasta, I always tried to put the houseboat on the leeward side of the houseboat. The first year I'd set the anchor away from the boat and then tied a 30' line to it. In the first pic below, you can see we used a float toy to shuttle between the boats (and it also...

    High and Dry Procedure

As long as they aren't running the engines, you should be OK to remove the clean-out plugs. The general thought with the drain plugs is you want them removed once the boat is out of the water so any water can drain lower and eventually out the bilge drain. Does the marina remove that plug once...

What negative comments have prop boaters made about your jet boat

I don't think I've every heard a negative comment about it being a Jet Boat. Like others above, most comments are along the lines of, "nice boat." When people ask me what type of boat I have, my first response is, "a 24-foot bowrider." Then if they're curious, I fish out my phone and show a...

Stoltz Bow Roller doesn't live up to the hype

When I traded out the stock roller, I only installed a 4" Stoltz component - not the outside flanges and put a slightly shorter bolt on it. In three seasons, it's worked fine and the boat doesn't get close to the metal parts. No scuffs.

Aargh... Milkshake Engine Oil... WTF? (Port Engine, 2016 AR240, ~300 hrs)

Just catching up on the thread. When I was a kid, our boat engine stopped one day. Dad pulled the dipstick and it was a milkshake. This was on a small block Ford engine. He initially thought it was a bad head gasket, changed it out, and then had more milkshake. We then tore the engine down...

    242 Limited height on trailer

You might check around and see if you can find the original Yamaha brochures as that is usually listed on them. My 242x is about 11.5 feet with the tower up. I believe there's a big Yamaha dealer up in Red Wing (I saw their ads when I was in the market) and you may go to their parts/service...

    Tesla Truck? No thanks....

To me that Tesla "truck" looks like the strange off-spring of a car from the Tron movie set & a delorian. My largest problem with an electric truck is infrastructure based. I've yet to see an electric charger that is accommodating to a truck towing a trailer (much less a 11.5 got high boat &...

    Battery tending off the boat

I use a dual battery tender in an unheated garage (only barely drops to freezing occasionally). 4 years on the batteries and no issues.

    50mph Omni-directional HouseJetBoat

I like the concept. My first question was how do you maintain a clean flow of water through the jets without cavitation? turning on/off adjacent pumps could turn it however, how would you get any intake to a forward pump when trying to reverse...

    Left engine no ignition

My first thought was one of the kill switches on the clean out port hatch. Maybe try swapping the wires from side to side on the switches and see if the problem mysteriously 'jumps' to the starboard.

    Engine Noise - 2020 242 Limited S-E

My 17 is way quieter than the 09 ever thought about being. my starboard has a slight rattle at idle but once the pump is loaded up, it gets better. On my 09, they would get a little rattle every so often and the cure I found was adding a little grease to the bearings. This always quieted it down.

JetBoatPilot's New Surf Tech, Thrust Vector Wake

the acid wash on my boat at the end of the season took the powder coating off as well. So long as it's just aesthetics and won't hurt the functionality of the fins, they will be fine for me.

Sweet Baby Jesus! Maneuvering at 5mph!

one of my favorite tricks is (like say when dropping off someone off at the end of a dock) is to approach it head on, then about 30-40 feet from the dock, swing her around in her own boat length and have the people step off the back porch onto the dock. then idle away. It always gets good looks...

Time for a new hitch I guess

That's scary...but still better than this one I saw on a car back in 2018 in San Francisco...

Boat Dealer told me Jet Drives are nothing but trouble in Salt Water

whoever told ya that is either a) not carrying jets; 2) uninformed; or 3) both. Jets have been used in salt water for years, and like anything if you know the maintenance involved with them, they will last. My recommendation is to go elsewhere and talk to a Scarab dealer.
