    Mooring Cover Do I need

+1 to @Crob83 I agree Once you're used to it, it takes about 10 minutes to put on. If I had a barn to store it in between trips, I'd also put it on for time in the barn as that way the cover will keep dust from settling into it and also keep unwanted guests from setting up home in it.

    Mooring Cover Do I need

Check Yamaha Sports Plaza up in Oregon...they usually have the best price...even with $30 shipping. I for one have had the towing cover on both of my boats and won't go without it. My boat sits in the lake all summer and in covered storage all winter with the cover on and the only time it's...

Things That Cause Cavitation and How to Avoid Them

With a used boat, it's hard to tell what may have happened with it's past owner. they may have run it with something in the tunnel on that side to cause this issue. Basically anything that disrupt the flow of water up into the tunnels and to the impellers can cause cavitation. Probably the...

    SS scupper Valve Yamaha 195s

The older 230/232 series had plastic scuppers down under the water line and were prone to cracking after a few seasons. I changed mine out when the boat was in it's third season (6 years old) and was a bit of a bear to do but was well worth it. If yours is above the water line, then it'd only...

Spring run-up - change the plugs?

Sitting over the winter shouldn't bother the plugs. I commonly change my oil when the boat is in the lake over Labor Day Weekend, then take it out of Tahoe for another five days of wakeboarding in Lake Shasta without any worries. Going into last year I was lazy and didn't change them and there...

    OVERHEAT / CEL ALARM

If installing a splitter I’d worry about enough water pressure into the engines while on the hose. Another alternative could be to run 5-8 minutes on one side, then the other, then like another 3-5 on the first. After 10-12 minutes though I’d imagine you will flush about as much as you’re going...

    OVERHEAT / CEL ALARM

Here's my overheat on the hose story. Before going into Lake Tahoe "that shall go through muscle inspection" and on our boats that means starting it up and running 1401 degree water through the engines. on the 242XE, it also means pumping some of that water into each of the bags. Been doing...

    Wipe down after every use?

Mine gets a wax annually...either in the fall before layup (it's in a covered storage unit all winter) or before going into the lake in the spring. Since it sits int he lake all summer, the hull only gets some hot sauce on it, but the topside gets regular cleanings. We have about a 15 minute...

    Portable toilets in a 242

I have a luggable Loo on mine + a gatorade bottle for the guys who need to go and can't get into the lake. The rule with the luggable loo is: you dirty it, you clean it. It stays clean!

Stern Drive to Yamaha Learning Curve Tip

I agree with @Dave burke on using the throttles independently both direction and thrust. With a little practice, its fun to turn the boat around in it's own length. On my 2017 one thing I've found (I'm about 6') is to put the seat bolster up and stand up when docking. I also drive with my...

Towing an empty trailer long distances

I pulled my 24' trailer empty about 300 miles last year from Lake Tahoe to the Central Valley and back. it towed great...the problem was that it's only about 900 pounds and it was easy to forget it was back there.

    Decal removal

That's odd that they'd put the model up there in "registration number land." And I'm thinking mine need to come off this year. hairdryer and a little goo gone....I'm not liking that bright yellow on it anymore.

Should I switch to Radial Tires?

I towed 350 miles on my first set of bias ply tires. Switched to Radials and the trailer was totally different. I had Maxxis 8008s on the 2009 and Goodyear Endurance on the 2017. I liked the Endurance as they are D rated rather than C...so they are rated for more weight. The tire shop guys...

Georgia Personal Property Tax for boat no longer in GA

In California the property tax is charged in whatever county it is primarily stored in/used. whoever owns the boat on Jan 1 pays the property tax for the year. Thus since I owned the boat on Jan I of 2021, I get the privilege of paying for the taxes on it even if it's sold later in the year...

Plain Docklines, Snubbers, or bungies for Entire-Summer Slip?

I use the towing cover on it and that keeps water out. I also have the built in solar panels so that keeps my house battery charged throughout the summer. If you don't have the integrated solar panels, you can easily set up a system on your boat. I believe yours has a tower on it which makes...

Plain Docklines, Snubbers, or bungies for Entire-Summer Slip?

I leave mine in the slip all summer...every summer. I have the luxury of it being on a locked dock so only people with Keys have access to it. We are in a marina and there's barely a ripple in the water. I use four lines 2 off the bow cleats and 2 off the stern...which keep the boat from...

Reliability of new voting machines questioned-Associated Press

I've traveled for work for years and can never tell if I'll be home on Election Day or not - so I vote absentee (or by mail as it's now called). Its the best way in my opinion as you can take your time to fill out your ballot on your kitchen table. Once submitted, there's paper copy that is...

Bringing boat to Fl by water. Not jet boat.

Nice pics and looks like a great trip. And for perspective, she looks to be burning about 23 gallons per hour - per side. So basically a Yammie tank every hour!

    2018 & 2019 Yamaha Owners

These boats are pretty easy as far as maintenance: Oil & filter change either annually or every 100 hours, a couple squirts of grease in 1zirk per engine, and I do spark plugs annually. Getting parts for these engines is relatively easy as they are also used in Yamaha Ski's. One thing to...

    Yamaha 275SD reliability?

From what I've seen, the batteries they add at the dealerships are typically very small and cheap. When I bought the 242 I had a set of Optima (27 and 31 group sizes) and I told the dealer I wanted a credit on the batteries and I'd supply my own. I use the larger one on the House battery and...
