Bass tracker merc sport jet 120 binds up when cranking

I don't think that a Mercury Sport Jet 120 has a liner, the jet body having been machined from an aluminum casting. There may have been a liner installed, but stock there is none I am aware of as they should be just like the 90 that I have.

    Trailer hitch

Warranty on what part? If the boat trailer will not stand up and they rate it over 5000 lbs then they would have a problem. In the past the problem with WDH on a boat trailer was surge brakes and the chain type hitch not allowing the tongue to move and actuate the brake cylinder. The newer style...

    Trailer hitch

Then you have yet to see a boat trailer over 5000 lbs that meets the truck manufacturer's requirements for over 5000 lbs. Here is a link to the eTrailer page on adapters for boat trailers. Using a Weight Distribution System on a Boat Trailer With Surge Brakes | etrailer.com A quick google...

    Trailer hitch

A Class III hitch should be good for 5000 lbs as is a class IV without a Weight Distributing Hitch on almost any Ford Truck. The key point here is over 5000 lbs a Weight Distributing Hitch is required equipment and is covered by the * on the truck ratings (Properly Equipped *)

    Tongue Weight vs Level Trailer

From Ford: Guide to towing | Vehicle Features | Official Ford Owner Site Notes: • Calculated with SAE J2807 method. • Do not exceed trailer weight of 5,000 lbs. when towing with bumper only. • Trailer tongue load weight should be 10% of total loaded trailer weight. Make sure vehicle payload...

    Tongue Weight vs Level Trailer

A class IV hitch also requires a WDH over 500 lbs pin weight, as a coincidence. Hence over 5000 lbs (10% happens to be 500 lbs) a WDH is required per the specs.

    Tongue Weight vs Level Trailer

Take the arms off before launching, but still there are basically no trucks certified for weights over 5000 lbs without WDHs. So keep your weight below 5000 lbs, easy

    Tongue Weight vs Level Trailer

If the tandem axles are binding the tongue weight will vary and the CG will also shift. What is the total weight? 10% or so should be on the pin. At this weight you should be using a weight distributing hitch. It the total weight is less than 5000 lbs then the tongue is too heavy and perhaps the...

Jet today gone tomorrow. ( Venting a little winter frustration ) and just a good typical discussion.

I read through parts of this to see if I had any interest in what was here since I was tagged and found little to none. If you have something on the old Mercury Sport Jets let me know. Otherwise enjoy you big new Yamahas etc.

When Nice Boats Go Bad (part 5)

Find a copy of the workshop manual as often there is a progression of electronics covered and it will show how the later Mercury electronics were added to the Force block. This what I did with my 90 ho force.

When Nice Boats Go Bad (part 5)

I have no idea about the six cylinder engines, but the Force Sport Jets 90 and 120 HP if they have the late model (red) stators will work with the CDM modules as long as the Trigger coil matches with the flywheel. There are two types of trigger coils and they are not compatible with the...

When Nice Boats Go Bad (part 5)

Try looking at this set of CDMs and wiring harness. Sea Doo Mercury jet drive M2 CDM module ignition coil coils pack 240 EFI 200 745061358768 | eBay I cannot guarantee that this will work with your stator as I have not researched it like I did for the 90 HP three cylinder Force. This will give...

1996 Regal Rush XP 120 jet boat - Broken Control/Shift Cable

I need to see if I pulled out the steering cable before I sold the remains of the boat and trailer. Maybe yes, maybe no... I have slept since then so I will have to take a look in the spares box.

When Nice Boats Go Bad (part 5)

Depending on the stator and flywheel you might be much better off installing a Mercury 200 hp wiring harness and CDM modules than buying all of the old tech CDI switch boxes. I have done three cylinder force engines with the red stator. Works good and saves money.

    Anyone own a 3D printer?

Buy a piece of PVC pipe the OD you need and drill it apart with a hole saw the diameter of the tube you are connecting to and then fill with JB Weld to gain strength. You could mold a bolt in it to provide bolting or drill a hole after the JB weld cures. You could also mold in a short piece of...

    Charging system is odd...

House batteries are usually deep cycle and they take linger to charge and should be maintained separately. The boat charging might work OK for minor discharge, but for a battery deeply discharged it will take a while to recharge. Deep cycle discharge slowly, charge slowly. If the battery was...

Battery on or off in slip?

I battery wondered about the battery powered automatic bilge pump sand what happens when the pump turns on and pumps the water while draining the battery until it is dead. What if no one notices the pump running, walking right by? I think a good idea might be to wire a horn somehow to let people...

Where my drain plugs used to be!

Here is a link to a procedure to take care of the problem. Hot water pressure wash would do or steam cleaning being careful to not stay in one place too long. https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/92700.html PLEASE don't spread them by not cleaning your boat before going to uninfected areas.

Mercury Sport Jet 120 blown........PLEASE HELP!!!

There should be no need for silicone around the outer edge of the ride plate as the gasket should conform to the area and seal this area. A small amount of sealant around the pump to make sure that it seals might help, but again it should not be necessary if the plate is flat, but with yours...
