There are several makes and the one that is an epoxy is the best. https://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-V2185838-Performance-Compound-Galvanizing/dp/B000LET8DA/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1531346769&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=epoxy+galvanize+paint

First Time Saltwater Preparations & Rusting Galvanized Trailer in Fresh Water???

SO replace hardware with stainless in case it rusts and fails? Buy some Instant Cold Galvanize and after washing and letting it dry paint the exposed steel parts and don;t worry about it. The trailer is hot dip galvanized the hardware may be electro plated or not plated at all. No big deal...

1994 sea rayder Jet boat no start

The neutral safety switch is in the yellow/red wire from the key switch back to the engine solenoid. These wires could be tied together and then the key switch will pull in the solenoid. Also check the fuse that provides power to the keys witch The black /yellow wire is shorted to ground to...

1994 sea rayder Jet boat no start

Perhaps I misspoke, but the switch works at idle or neutral. Many have jumpered it out so that the throttle can be advanced. You do have the little silver know that should disconnect the shift from the throttle so that you can increase the idle speed and keep the gate in neutral.

1994 sea rayder Jet boat no start

Check the idle start switch in the throttle. It should just allow starting in the idle detent. Also check the safety lanyard switch for spark.

My Bearing Buddies are not holding grease!

The hubs will pick up heat from the brakes, but the hubs on unbraked wheels might be warm, but not hot. Usually the hubs are cooler that the tires, but warm. If there is too much grease the hubs will run hotter than they should. The Bearing Buddies should not compress the springs too much...

My Bearing Buddies are not holding grease!

When I fill mine at a certain point there is a small hole that bleeds grease and at that point I quit pumping. One thing to note the bearing buddies ant all of the systems that completely fill a bearing cavity will increase the heat in the hub and grease. Bearings really should not have the...

    The Story of my Baja

These early jet boats are mostly unloved, but offer a great learning opportunity! On the one hand they are usually cheap, but if you can't do the work yourself would be very expensive to fix. They were popular and if fixed up properly can be just as enjoyable today as way back then. My Hobie Jet...

Removing 23 year oldSport Jet ride plate!

An important note: I have a Dewalt impact driver that broke off two of those bits and wrung off the head on one. While they are handy, use the impact screwdriver instead and make sure it is straight and the bit is in good condition. Heat hell out of the area, use good penetrating fluid and try...

Removing 23 year oldSport Jet ride plate!

Sorry about no pictures, but with the heat and rain.... The R&R is fairly straight forward, but getting the screws out is the problem. In my case the hull was molded pretty close to specifications so I did not have as many problems as some have reported. I started in the back and got the plate...

Removing 23 year oldSport Jet ride plate!

With ACF-50 and heat and whacking with an impact screwdriver I got all but one screw out. That last one involved drilling and retapping. I was worried about getting the new seal installed, but it was not too bad. I pushed the rear in first and then bumped with a light 4 lb tapping hammer and put...

    The Story of my Baja

Post them up! I have, and am doing the same thing with my 1995 Hobie Jet Fisherman with a Sport Jet 90. This last few days I worried off the ride plate and grate to replace the seal. Corrosion is a booger bear! I refinished the id of the wear ring with JB weld as long as I had it broken down...

    1996 mercury force 120hp compression

150 - 125 = 25 psi 15% of 150 is 22.5 psi so the numbers are within the acceptable range. I would run the engine to warm it up and then check again 10% would be better match. There is a slight designed in difference between the cylinders With a charged strong battery all plugs out with the...

Removing 23 year oldSport Jet ride plate!

Some good news, some bad... I got all of the screws out of the ride plate using a soaking of ACF-50 and an impact screwdriver. The ACF-50 is a very good anti-corrosion and penetrating fluid and I applied it for two days before starting the process. Unfortunately the intake grill for the Hobie...

Removing 23 year oldSport Jet ride plate!

The aluminum of the pump is behind the ride plate. Unfortunately the stainless steel screws and the aluminum casting set up an electrolytic corrosion between the pieces and the aluminum will expand and seize the screws like they were welded. I am going to go by Harbor Freight and get one of...

Removing 23 year oldSport Jet ride plate!

The other day we were fishing a shallow creek feeding Santa Rosa sound when we ran aground and upon extricating the boat (low speed grounding) we noticed cavitation and unable to get up on a plane. After a few miles of 5 mph cruising at 2500 rpm we pulled the Hobie Jet Fisherman on the trailer...

Polaris EX2100 - Throttle Control Issue

My sport jet has a single lever for forward /reverse the further from neutral/idle the faster it goes. The detent must be not working. The half ball on the bottom of the throttle ball pulls the latch out of the detent. A little lube might free it up. To go through neutral you should have to pick...

Cooling water shutoff and driveway cooling valve.

I have been running my Hobie Jet (Mercury Sport Jet 90) a good bit in the Santa Rosa Sound and each time I put the boat up I flush with the dealer adapter and run the engine. Connecting ans disconnecting the cooling hose from the pump each time is getting to be a PITA. I have decided that I am...

    RPM for Sport Jet 90?

It runs smooth at high rpms without the REV limiter in the circuit so I think that the interrupting the ignition at the limit. I wonder if doing the JB weld thing to tighten up the clearances a little might increase the loading and limit the rpm to 5500 or so and be more efficient? Since the 120...
