Before winter or in the spring ? And why?

I'll be the contrarian and say you always want to store an engine with clean oil. Given all the people who don't with no ill affects, it probably doesn't really make much difference!

    2019 Yamaha 242X E - Should I buy??

In these "leftover" situations, the money you save now is really mainly the extra depreciation you'll end up losing when you sell it anyway. Personally, if I was financing it I'd take the savings now on the leftover, if paying cash and can easily afford the extra few thousand, grab that pristine...

    Drastically different hours on engine

Non-Connext boat, right? If I'm not mistaken, leaving a key "on" ran the hour meter regardless of the motor running - I bet someone left one on till the battery went dead and the true hours are 60.

What could cause your boat to lose 10mph?

I agree, boattest saw 52 on that model which is about as fast as these yami's go. Those old 230's with properly running HO MR1's were no slouches either!

Chap and Scarab going to 600 hp?!

I think it's more likely this motor is for more overpowered PWCs. While a 60+mph 600hp twin jet-power family runabout is an interesting concept, it makes very little sense for many reasons. Sounds also like they finally redesigned their failure-prone superchargers (and these PWC engines bear no...

Starboard engine not Reving up. Help

Typical rpm loss cause is a fouled spark plug(s) - how many hours on it? The random drive gate orientation when powering up or down seems to be an e-series feature...

    E-Series Ignition/Battery/Key Question?

Best practice is to shut the key off whenever you are stopping for more than a few minutes. Leaving it on keeps all of the engine electronics powered so it definitely consumes more power. Pressing (any?) button on connext powers it back up - not sure if it will time out and shut off...

Low rpms on 2016 242 lse

The e-series bimini is quite a parachute at high speeds- mine struggles to reach 50 also and even less when loaded or sub optimal conditions. Took her out topless last week for a shakedown cruise, saw 52 with the wind!

    Steer by Wire?

I agree this is an intriguing concept, especially with Yamaha seeming to have the all of the components already for their outboards. However, jet boats occupy the lower price end of the boat market. As you noted, adding the electric drive-by-wire individual steering and controllers would add...

    Engine break in

It's covered in the manual (worth a quick read) - pretty much ready for full throttle after your first trip!

    Sucked up.... a tarp.

Nine years ago while taking my FIRST trip on my brand NEW "jet" boat, I sucked up a trash bag and was dead in the water. I couldn't believe it and the wife was looking at me like WTF kind of boat did you get us into here? Lots of jet boating later, only sucked up one rope (her fault) and plenty...

questions from a potential jet boat owner

We obviously like our jet boats here, but the truth is get a wood chip wedged in the pump by the impeller and you're probably done for the day. In those conditions I'd get an outboard I could tilt up and clear the prop. Just make sure the engine is always OFF when you're stopped and anyone is in...

One week in a wet slip?

After a week in the brine you will have slime and the beginnings of barnicles growing on the hull which can be scrubbed off "relatively" easily. I try to limit my boat to 3 days in to avoid this extra cleaning. Also, IMO just wait until you haul it and flush it well with saltaway.

Dual battery switches When hanging out

I agree shutting off the key switch and rebooting connext makes sense if you're stopped for a while - leaving the key switch on activates engine electronics. And no need to deal with shutting off the start battery - AFAIK the house can completely drain from the radio, which will also kill...
