Video - Help me understand what is causing this?

Classic cavitation of that port impeller. If you punch it from idle does it do it immediately? If there are no obstructions or hidden debris in the pump (easy fix), a poor seal somewhere can cause this.

Spring Prep - Lube and Salt

Hey Mike welcome aboard - I live near Caldwell where do you boat? Some surface corrosion is pretty much unavoidable in the salt. Keeping things coated with a protectant slows the process - bottom line is these boats were really not designed for saltwater use. The new coating used on the FSH...

First impression and question on connex

In my 2016 version you've got to hunt around to power off the radio before you shut off connext.

    AR240 battery connection

These pictures show the wiring of the two batteries in my 242. Exact layout varies depending on how the dealer rigs them, but the important things to note are all of the grounds end up being common due to the cross over cable including the sensor cable, and the positive cable connections are all...

Chap is the fastest of the the 24' jetboats (tested by Boattest)

Put twin 250 outboards on that Four Winns (same hp as the Chap) and she'd really fly!

    Useless service department...

Sometimes I think Yamaha dealers must enjoy annoying their customers! I had the same steering binding up issue at the beginning of the second season on my 2016. Just inside the one year warranty but I have 5 years of YES so I wasn't concerned. Called the dealer and was immediately told steering...

RIVA Maptuner X ECU Reflash: Throttle Response and Speed Control

BoatTest got 52.3 mph @ 20.5 gph on their latest 195 SVHO test (a much better result than previous tests IIRC) vs 43.2 mph @ 11.9 gph on the 190 HO. Extrapolating to the 240/242 which they tested with a best result of 51.8 mph @ 22.9 gph, in theory that twin SVHO engine (245?) could do 62.7 mph...

    Copart — salvage 2016 yamaha

That hull is ready for the shredder... I guess the concept would be parting it out and the only thing of significant value are the engines which are not shown and for all you know, the boat might have sunk!

    Yamaha Fuel Economy

All of the BoatTest numbers with the 24 footers getting over 3 mpg at cruise speed is pure dreaming. I've had two and the only time I could get 3 mpg was lightly loaded and barely on plane. Increase speed into the 30's and load and mpg drops to 2.5ish. The early 210's with the low power-rated...

Thank goodness this didn't happen during boating season!

Wow you did a number on your ankle! Busted the tip off my fibula a few years ago (slipping off my wet dry-docked Yamaha and landing wrong!) but no surgery or screws were required. Long recovery road ahead - even mine took 2 months in a cast to heal and didn't feel 100% for a full year, but you...

    Evinrude vs Yamaha outboards

Interesting but kind of pointless comparo, unless your primary concern is getting home quick after losing an engine (which we definitely can not do!) Would have been more useful to compare matched twins for economy, speed and other factors. I know these new tech 2-cycle engines are much improved...

Boat frozen in Lake Champlain...navigation/driving hazard

Trashed and abandoned boats are an interesting issue as opposed to other vehicles since they not only typically have zero salvage value but are expensive to haul away and dispose of. You would think it would be relatively easy for the town to trace the HIN or Reg# and find the last owner, send a...

Lifting boat off trailer with sling travel lift

Here's a question I haven't seen discussed before, wondering if anyone has any experience! I want to trailer my boat (2016 242) to a marina in the spring (yes I'm planning ahead) that launches using one of those large sling-type travel lifts. Can these boats be safely lifted with slings and is...

Increased warranty and something new coming from Scarab??

They make some sharp looking boats (but I still like my Yami better)! I'm guessing a 215 "Open" but it seems like a long tease to 2019?

Looking to purchase a new Yamaha 242 Limited S E

Plenty of dealers in Jersey, although in my experience they hold pretty firm on pricing and low trade-in values. Surf City marina where I bought mine has a 2016 242X for sale (likely their demo boat) they might take a low ball offer on...

    Searau boat company for sale

Selling off (or trying to) their best boat brand? Go figure! (Bet the execs are looking for a cash infusion) Maybe that line of jet boats they cancelled would have made them more profitable...

Bimini Crossing Fuel & Speed Data ( if comfortable please contribute data)

You might be overthinking this - these boats get sufficient mpg to make the trip at any speed under ideal conditions. It all comes down to load and external factors like wind, waves, current and the resulting course and speed deviations.

I had a close call yesterday!

That wasn't a close call - you hit it! Fortunately in a jet drive boat so no outdrive damage (and I agree on the poorly maintained dock situation - even worse when it's a marina or gas dock)!

    Boat capsizes in Jupiter inlet

Taking a low freeboard flats boat through an inlet with steep waves like that without riding on the back of one... this can happen! (by the way these low bow jet boats are potentially not much better in that situation)

Yamaha SX-210 Gas Tank Cover Bolt Question

A flat blade screwdriver will fit diagonally, just be aware whatever these bolts screw into seems to fail easily on the older boats.
