    Lake Winnipesaukee

Navionics has a iPhone app and an Android phone app; I did try the iPhone version on a 4 and had trouble seeing the screen. I think my newer phone is much brighter, but I got a Lowrance plotter last year and love it.

    Lake Winnipesaukee

We have a timeshare in Wolfeboro the last 2 weeks of June every year ( we usually only use the first 1, the week before the 4th gets a little busy), and we love the big lake. A new chart from Bizer and a gps will keep you safe, but study the chart before you go into new areas. I have found that...

    Boating with a baby

Our grand kids hated the life jackets (we bought 5 different styles!) but put up with them until the short rides to anchor places or home were done. Once on anchor, we used towel clips http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Round-Bimini-Top-Biminiclip-6-pack&i=75813 to...

    Which boat to buy?

I find that if I back the speed to just off plane, the bow will rise enough and stay there so the 'slamming' stops, and my wife stops white knuckling my arm. The boat plows a bit at this speed, but the ride is dry and comfortable. It does really suck the gas down, though!

My Camper Cover photos, questions etc

I have been talking to a custom canvas guy; he found this: http://www.1888boattops.com/Yamaha.html I like this a lot, but I am still trying to see if instead of the second full bimini he can use straps attached to the tower and rear factory bimini support to make an attachment point/roof under...

Any side to side maintenance cost comparisons between a JB and a IB/OB Available

IO's need to have the lower unit gear oil changed annually; usually in the fall up north to see if any water has gotten in (expensive seal repair) and just for normal lubricant renewal. The lower unit water pump impeller should be changed annually. Anti freeze should be pumped through the...

    Which boat to buy?

I traded a Four Winns 224 Fundeck (similar to the Sea Ray in layout) for my 242 LS. The Yamaha is a lot lighter, and way more responsive. The first time I drove the LS in 'big' water, I had a bit of trouble finding the right speed to avoid slamming and stay dry, but now feel confident in 3+ foot...

My Camper Cover photos, questions etc

@Julian's cover is the type I want to install, but my wife loves the Limited S bimini and doesn't want to install a second one to attach the rest of the canvas. We have used this type of enclosure on former boats to extend our season and to boat in the rain. Has anyone tried to put this type of...

    Weed ingestion on Lake Havasu

Thanks Glassman. You are right about the location of the weed mats, but we did see a few floating down the river. The scenery is amazing, and very different than our New England norm. We stopped going up-river just after the campground at Pirates cove. I hope to get back there soon.

    Weed ingestion on Lake Havasu

Hi, We were out this week on Lake Havasu and went upriver to explore ( not in our Yamaha) and we saw a few 230/240's on the river at a California side campground. I was curious about the mats of weeds we saw on the lake; are they the type/quantity that cause clogs? I am hoping one or both of the...

    Depth finder

The Lowrance does come with a transducer, designed to be externally or internally mounted. I bought the same unit with Navionics charting; the charts are great. I have not yet mounted the transducer, but I plan on putting it inside the hull near the stock thru hull one with epoxy.

I like that idea! Great time saver over fall and spring waxing!

    242X? All in the numbers.....

If you can afford it, and it is the boat that makes you happy, buy it! There is no way to put a price tag on happiness. Life is too short to let a balance sheet rule your world.
