    final amp advice

Divided the way that the zones would be independently gained and perhaps controlled. Front and rear cockpit speakers in parallel on two channels. Zone One. Bow on two channels. Zone Two. Swimdeck on two channels. Zone Three.

    final amp advice

I wouldn't recommend the old Syn6 in any case because it is Class AB, and not H. Assuming that you have eight coaxial speakers broken into three zones. that would require six channels plus 1 or 2 for the subwoofer, so eight total channels for in-the-boat. You can sell the HTX4 and get two HTX6s...

    Some subs not speed...

^^^ Acoustic suspension AND direct radiating. This is the very best sound quality option. For even more output (for bass-heads), you simply run two side-by-side sub/enclosures and double the power. 6 dB more output which is equivalent to double the volume as we perceive very low bass (a little...

Loudest, clearest, most badass, (economical) marine speakers?

The black ooze (like tar) coming from the DC Gold was Ferrofluid. There's no doubt that the DD Audio speaker (besides being a home state product) is a darn good sounding one. Since the front of the cone is coated it is protected in that sense (in what you can see). However, the rear of the cone...

Loudest, clearest, most badass, (economical) marine speakers?

A couple of points to share here. The DCGold has no spider to damp the cone motion, and no spider to center the cone. At the time the Babb (DCGold) was designed, spiders where cotton/linen and they wanted to make a waterproof speaker. So instead it uses a Teflon bearing to reduce friction...

    Sub received

For my projects around the house, car or boat (if I had one) I use something like a Kester rosin core SN60PB40 (premium leaded) solder. Just barely tin the ends (nice flow and no build up) and maintain some wire flexibility in order for the wire end to seat well in the screw down amplifier terminal.

    Sub received

That's awesome! And it already comes in a box. Just a disposable brush and some polyester resin and you're all set to go.

advice on 2nd amp and wiring

If you have decent source unit preamp output voltage, 100% shielded cables, an amplifier with a balanced-differential input section, and with RCA cables up to 20 feet, you should have zero consequences running long RCA cables. I'm pretty sure that long RCA cables are less expensive than long...

    Some subs not speed...

That very much depends on your individual appetite for sound quality and how you perceive sound quality .....as in a tactile boat shaker or a musical bass maker. If adequately vented, you are passing 'some' of the acoustic energy out of the compartment and into the open air. If not vented, you...

    JBL stuck on radio

If you have a remote control, unplug it at the rear of the HU.

Probably covered in the past, can't seem to find one answer...

You're on the right track. An amplifier will make a big difference, even with the speakers you have now. The HU will definitely reach its power limitations far before your speakers will show the fist hint of distortion. In fact, any limitation that you hear now is the HU power. Given the limited...

    Polk Audio MM651

Yes, Earmark Marine certainly is an authorized marine audio on-line dealer for Wetsounds, JL Audio and much more as evidenced by their logo featured on those manufacturer sites. It's a shame that you didn't go through Odin at Earmark Marine because his technical support may have served you well...

3M 4000, 4200, or 5200 for filling carpet snap screw holes?

I've really given you my limited experience with this subject. I've used epoxies that I colored by mixing in enamel model paint to fix chips in ceramic tiles. You cannot find the original flaws and the patches have held up in high traffic areas for the long term. And I've used marine-tex on...

3M 4000, 4200, or 5200 for filling carpet snap screw holes?

Well, if I don't know it then I simply make something up on the fly. Here's a technique with the marine-tex to avoid sanding that produces a nice level finish. Fill the hole. As the epoxy just begins to gel but before its cured, skim the surface, almost horizontal to the surface, with a brand...

Questionable Wiring on a used (newly purchased) 2011 212x

I hate to read that you will have to go to the extra trouble of transporting your batteries for charging, however, that solves most of your problem. Yes, a $15 multimeter will do. So here are your numbers. A new and fully charged battery, once the artificial and elevated charging voltage has...

Questionable Wiring on a used (newly purchased) 2011 212x

Yes, ditch the capacitor ASAP. It's okay for a daily driver but bad for a boat in consideration of long term storage. The capacitor will eventually be a liability to your charging system on a boat specifically. And in the meantime it adds nothing of value in this case. Typically Yamahas have a...

    Polk Audio MM651

Irvs, If both tweeters blew at the same time, I would say that eliminates any defective condition. 50% gain doesn't mean much since the source voltage and other factors will determine the amplifier output. A seemingly moderate +6dB treble boost is four times the power over a portion of the...

    Polk Audio MM651

Although I like the JL Audio MX650 over the Polk Audio MM651UM, this particular Polk sounds most similar to the JL. Both the JL Audio MX650 and Wetsounds XS650 would be my first choices. The two do sound different. The JL Audio uses a lower resonance and smoother soft dome tweeter with a 2nd...
