    Float Plane - Danger?!

121.5 is for reporting emergencies. the frequency you're looking for is called a ctaf, or common traffic advisory frequency. Public airports that do not have towers all have ctaf frequencies in order for airplanes to self announce their intentions to surrounding aircraft. But, since a lake is...

    Float Plane - Danger?!

In the rule book, the FAR/AIM, 91.115 calls out that the airplane follows the same rules upon the water as other boats. It doesn't get specific about landing however. http://www.airweb.faa.gov/REGULATORY_AND_GUIDANCE_LIBRARY\RGFAR.NSF/0/2EA99FD06D59A9BC852566CF00614DEA As far as the aviation...

    Float Plane - Danger?!

I'm guessing that the float plane pilot is on his forum complaining about us violating on the lakes as well. It's my understanding that float planes have right of way when landing. Navigating upon the water may be another story.

Been there, done that, BIMINI 2011... They had a trunk full of illegal immigrants trying to do their own kind of boat crossing. That's what the huge tarp is for on the back of the ship.

Millwaukee Air and Water show '17

I have gps coordinates from where I anchored a few years ago. Unfortunately they are on my boat and not handy. We were outside the break wall, straight east of the beach. Throw in an anchor, the coast guard will move you if you're too close.

I didn't wait long to change to radials. I've towed from WI to FL for 4 Bimini trips, WI to Table Rock in MO, and numerous other trips in WI. I'm still on the original radials and have never had a flat. Very much worth the upgrade in my book. For what it's worth, my boat/trailer is a 2009 that...

That's why you have the appointment in person at a customs office for approval to participate in SVRS. You get finger printed and background checked prior to participation.

This is somewhat true. If you are using the SVRS system, you must file a float plan with passenger and vessel information AND activate it prior to departure. This is easily done on through a website. BTW, I highly recommend the SVRS program. You clear into the US with a phone call, no need to...

    21' boat to Bimini

My experience was that the 21' handled wonderfully on all of our crossings, including the rough ones. I haven't crossed in a 23' or 24' so I really don't have a way to compare. If your criteria is Bimini, I wouldn't hesitate with our boat. I would caution about the 19' models because they have a...

sexy! I think the biggest problem with doing a ferry flight is that you must have a scheduled time to cross the Air Defense Zone. Once crossing the ADZ you'd have to clear customs each time you return, at the nearest airport that has customs on the field. That too has to be scheduled. They also...
