@Bruce I think if your window holds and the forecast is accurate for Sunday morning, it will be no problem. If you get into the inlet and it's rough, be conservative in your decision making.

Longest Tow to the Bimini Crossing

I think @tim h may edge me out by a few miles, towing from Port Washington, WI with a much larger boat too. But no one matches me for total miles, having done this trip so many times, some of them driving solo to boot. Wish I could make it this year!

Debate of speed of Bimini 2015 rough water crossing

Mike, you are not the captain everyone is referring to. We may have spoken, but yours is not the conversation I am referencing. Nor are you the person that Bruce is talking about I believe.

Lifes milestones/1st Solo flight (parent brag)

For final assembly, I moved the wings into my living room where it was warmer than my garage. They are about 9' long, 5' wide and 18" thick. Right now they are stored in my basement. Next is the fuselage. Once complete, you roll the fuselage into the driveway and test fit the wings. For final...

Debate of speed of Bimini 2015 rough water crossing

5 foot seas are not severe? In 19' to 24' boats, when you are out of fuel and not in sight of land is plenty severe for me. Keep in mind that those same seas had already sunk two boats on the same crossing. You keep throwing around the word coward. Seriously, knock it off. Coward is hiding...

Debate of speed of Bimini 2015 rough water crossing

@andy07sx230ho may not be, but I am totally offended by this post. If I had to estimate, some of the other captains present on that trip are probably offended too. You are correct that you weren't there. You were not part of the conversation I had with this captain. This individual, by his own...

This is from my airplane factory (garage) as I type this up... The metal part is the last and smallest bulkhead in the tail cone of the fuselage.

If you are at all serious about building, I can't emphasize enough to get started sooner rather than later. I have NO regrets that I started building before I started flying. In fact, I wish I had started building way sooner than I had!

I'm working on an RV 7. I finished the wings a couple weeks ago. My blog is here... Jeffsrv7ablog.wordpress.com

Well worth the effort. I started my pilot training in September of 2014 and earned my license July of 2015 at the age of 44. I'm currently working on building my airplane, which I hope to fly in 2017. @justason an early congratulations to your son! Way to go!

I would emphasize loading the bow light. Or at least being able to move anything heavy in the bow rearward in a big hurry! Do not overload your boat. Also, the fuel issues, including boats running out of fuel long before arrival in bimini, we're only indirectly related to the wave hight. They...

Bimini 2016 - Ft. Lauderdale to Bimini

Please do not wait on me to decide any dates this year. It is unlikely our family will make the group crossing. Best of luck!

I say go for it Eric! I'm loving building my airplane, but prepare to open that wallet up far wider than flight lessons. My propeller alone cost as much as my recently completed lessons. So worth it though! My intent in a few years is organising a Bimini trip by air!

Smart home, do you have one?

I also use foscam and love it. For home automation though, check out the "smart things" controller. They have a great app to control everything from and every device you can imagine controlling. Thermostats, switches, garage door openers, water alarms, locks, cameras, smoke detectors, etc. and...

Thoughts and observations from my failed Bimin Crossing

Not wanting to address this on behalf of @kthrash, but since I was there, I'll chime in. The Bimini crossing is quite strung out. Miles between the first and last boats. Much longer distances than snowmobiles. However, we were all in communication using radios. That being said, several boats...

Thoughts and observations from my failed Bimin Crossing

The factory puts the bilge pump in the engine compartment. This isn't truly the bottom of the boat. There is an area lower than the engine compartment, near where the scupper hose exits the bottom/rear of the boat.
