    I've always taken at least some splash in the boat. Sunglasses work fine though. I always tell everyone to wear swim gear. That worked especially well last year since it was the first year we stopped in the middle for refueling the 19 footers. We used the time to swim in 3000 feet of water...

    There are no flag requirements other than the yellow quarantine flag. But it is cool to fly your courtesy flag! The quarantine flag is taken down after your boat clears customs. Also, the only person allowed off the boat before clearing customs is the master of the vessel.

    Regarding radios, especially on the crossing, no need to stagger fixed and handheld. We never get that separated. The biggest problem is using the radios while underway. They're incredibly difficult to hear. Myself and several others have fixed radios that we can use to call sea tow, BoatUS...
