Everyone's financial situation is different. The reason I chose to build instead of buy outright, besides the experience of building itself, was because it was and will continue to be less expensive. I was able to buy the kits as needed over a period of 5 or 6 years instead of one huge upfront...

Hats off to you sir! I have flown to KOSH, but not during the big show yet. I'm based out of Waukesha. Good luck with that pro seal. My advice is to get them perfect the first time. I pressure tested using the balloon method and still had minor leaks that I only found after fuel sat in them for...

Triple tree is most certainly on my hit list. I've been watching that event from afar for way too long!

Unfortunately, OshKosh was canceled this year. I would have been there for sure. It's about a 20 minute flight from me.

Thanks much! It took a ton of work, but definitely worth it. If you're looking for a project, I say go for it. My only regret is that I didn't start sooner! You won't find my flights on any tracking service, I have that shut off at the FAA level.

It's been a while since this post has been updated. Since last update, the airframe has accumulated about 100 hours, test flight regiment was completed long ago. And, @tim h even got a flight with me over Port Washington. It has flown from Milwaukee to Kansas City on a few occasions with more...

It made one additional flight. Since then I was out of town for quite a while and no work got done. I'll be back in the hanger ASAP to make some adjustments on the prop governor.

You're absolutely correct. Every airplane has a best glide speed. Best glide is usually with flaps retracted. In an emergency flaps are deployed closer to the ground to make the landing more controllable, and in the worse case scenario, slow the impact. The reason the first flights are done...

The flap issue is a software programming oversight I suspect. The computer will not let you overspeed the flaps (deploy them when you're going too fast). I had overlooked the flap overspeed setting and left it blank. I think the computer default was artificially low and refused to lower the...

The data logging in the Garmin avionics is incredible. It looks like the fuel mapping is too lean. Program the computer to run a little richer and the problem should be resolved. https://www.cloudahoy.com/debrief/?key=lEF4y577HIBWiyU

It's air cooled. The cooling ducting around the engine will need to be sealed up better.

The first flight of N526T took place last night at 6:50pm. Test pilot reports that it flew straight, true, and fast, but hot. The flight was abbreviated because the engine was running a bit hot.

Some further explanations... The EAA has a program that provides oversight of these activities, a mentoring kind of thing. They have Technical Counselors that specialize in each type of construction (metal, fiberglass, tube or wood and fabric, etc.) They also have Flight Advisers that assist in...

So last week, I had the FAA over to the hanger. The FAA guy gave the airplane one serious inspection that took about 5 hours. Upon completion of the Airworthiness Inspection, this thing is now legally considered an official Airplane. It is legal to fly! It took me a few days to reassemble all...

Thanks Robert and Tim! I have a video of the first SUCCESSFUL engine run. The first attempts failed miserably because the fuel mapping was so lean the engine couldn't run. Since then I've had several successful runs, some at high rpm and manifold pressure setting. In other words ball to the...
