Just got my 192 back from first service. Only had to pay $225!

Thought this is a good deal, I know I can do myself next time thanks to this forum. Dealer had to order new dash hood/top cover. The adheaice holding the threaded studs failed on both. Seems like a pretty ghetto setup by yamaha on this dash. Oh well

Sounds like a good price. I'm sure that you're glad that you got it all done. Hopefully the turn around time wasn't too bad this time of year.

Out east on Long Island, I had the dealer come to my driveway and do the 10-hr for $300. He let me sit and watch, so it was kinda like taking a crash course on basic maintenance. To me it was worth it to watch, take notes and have the ear of a Yammi Tech...

I am about to do the 10 hour service on my AR240HO. . . .where's the best place to order the parts online? No time to run to the store before the weekend.

Anyone know what size oil filter wrench do I need. . . . ?

Hey guys. . . SOOOOO I was away for about a month and am just getting around to conducting the 10 hour service. I bought oil filters for the job, but in the manual it doesn't say that they need to be changed. It actually indicated that the oil be changed and that the filters be left in place.

My thoughts are I have em' let me change em. . . . . . But is there a reason they don't recommend changing them for the 10 hour service?

While not an on water emergency, I am marking this with [USERGROUP=9]@HELP[/USERGROUP] so I can get a quick answer and get out on the water. It's the wife's birthday.

I can't think of any reason not to change the filters if you want to.

If you do change them you will make more of a mess than simply changing the oil.

If you want to change the oil quickly with very little clean up save the filters for next time.

My motors are 2 stroke, so no filters... I can't think of a reason not to change them.

I have not heard of any reason not to change them other than cost.

@Bruce , just a statement from me. I think the @ _help, group is going to be one of the greatest feature of this forum. We had 3 responses within 2 minutes. This feature could prove to be one of the most valuable assets in our boating community In a real emergency." I'm so glad I came up with the name" LOL!!!

Why not get that break in grime out now.. Remember break in creates a bit of metallic material. Pretty simple and quick..

The mess. There is no way to change the filters without spilling oil. Bed pads placed under the engine will catch it but that creates what may be an unnecessary mess. It is possible to change the oil without spilling more than a few drops.

Does anyone know of a retrofit kit to relocate our oil filters.? That would be one way to limit spillage.
Steve

I say change them. They are a bitch to take off as it seems standard oil filter wrenches are not quite the right size. I use a zip lock around the filter when I take them off but I usually end up with some spilling in the bilge so I use oil absorbent mats under. Short term - expensive, but cheap preventative maintenance.

@0627Devildog , I didn't read back up the thread, but if you have a wide band oil filter strap wrench (most common), you can place a folded piece of sandpaper between it and the filter, with the grit against both...it will remove it easily. I have the appropriate wrench, a 14 face, size escapes me at the moment, but honestly, the sandpaper/strap wrench works beautifully. The best reason to change them is the break-in may have given up a little metal...but with a yamaha fleece filter, it ain't getting through! I changed them and will again, every year. And I only use the Yamaha fleece filters, Mercedes quality!

I set a small like bread pan....throw away aluminum. Works great.....my 06 It would lay perfectly under each....a challenge to get out but doable. Im excited that new boat 1.8's has filters on top.
