It's an older motor. You probably need a leak down test. You probably have a valve that's not cooperating.

You can deactivate one cylinder at a time and might find one deactivation has little impact... That's probably the cilynder giving you grief.

A new head will cure it if that's the issue.

Best of luck.
The SR 230 service manual says that the valve clearance should be check every 200 hours. This is something that is often neglected.

Just picked up this 2004 ar230

(Mr1 non-HO engines)

Posting to see if anyone can help me with some issues I’m having

Port side engine is only going up to 6k rpms sometimes if I pull back on the throttle a bit it’ll go up to 7k but it’s at 6k rpms at full throttle

Starboard side engine was only going up to 8k rpm for months until yesterday it randomly went up to 11k rpm’s

Boat has gradually lost rpms from one season to another

-swapped coil packs with wires from one engine to the other (issue remained)

-swapped air filters (no difference, tried running with no filters, no difference)

-swapped spark plugs from one engine to the other (no difference)

-swapped ecus (no difference)

-removed injectors and inspected spray pattern when turning key switch (good even spray pattern, no injectors are getting stuck open)

-tested fuel pressure at throttlebody 45-50psi even while engines at full throttle (while on the lake)

-fresh oil change (no signs of fuel or water in oil)

-new throttle cables installed

-inspected throttle bodies (butterfly’s are fully open while on full throttle and throttle cables are adjusted properly)

-engines fire up right away every time (zero hard starting issues)

-new impellers installed two seasons ago (still in mint condition, no signs of wear or damage)

-swapped clean out plugs (no difference)

Compression test

Port side (limited to 6k rpms) 170psi 170psi 175psi 170psi

Starboard side 185psi 150psi 180psi 190psi

What should I be looking at next?

THANKS IN ADVANCED!
Did you check wear ring condition?
