Today I took my 2007 Yamaha SX230 HO out of storage. I placed the water hose and flush connector on the port side, started the engine first, then opened the water valve to allow cool water to flow thru. About 5 minutes into it, the engine overheat light came on. I was trying to get the oil warm to do an oil change. I shut the engine off as soon as the overheat warning light came on. I did change the oil and filter, started the engine back up and the light did not come back on. The same thing happened to the starboard side as well. Not sure what’s going on. Can anyone give me some advice please. Thanks!

Probably just low water pressure from the city. You can force more water through the engine by clamping the cooling line just aft of the Y fitting.
Is your boat a fresh water of salt water boat?

Fresh water.

This. Had the same issue last year doing the exact same thing. I immediately shut it down and decided that I either didn’t have the flush valve open all the way or I didn’t have it locked into the port completely. It never overheated again last year after that one time for those brief couple of seconds. After that I decided to never leave the boat running when attached to the hose and not being right there watching the gauges.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone! It’s much appreciated.
