I’m new to this chat and looking for assistance. We have a 2007 Yamaha SX230 and live outside of Columbus Ohio. We just moved to a lake and it is very hard to find someone that is reliable and can work on jet boats. Checked the oil and noticed the “milky oil” finally found someone to work on the boat and they determined it was the gasket. They replaced the gasket and now that engine will not start??? Compression is 150, getting a spark, and the other engine fires right up! The person currently working on this boat says I may need a new engine???? The boat has always fired up and had no issues before but how can replacing a gasket turn into the engine not starting?! I’m trying to ask for guidance on who in Ohio or Midwest can look at this. Everyone around my lake says they will not work on jet boats or are 3 months backed up. My family and I recently moved to a lake and now we are without a boat and no one to trust. Please help and thank you.

What gasket was replaced? If it was the head gasket it is possible that when they reinstalled the cams and timing chain it was done incorrectly.

That’s a real (and scary) possibility. Scary, because these are interference engines, I believe. That said, if all 4 cylinders have 150 psi, I’d cling to hope that it’s not the problem. You said it’s got spark…. Have you tried a little ether? If it fires up on ether, it’s pretty much gotta be fuel related. Just go easy on the starting fluid. It’s really hard on an engine if you use a lot.

If tech was able to replace head gasket, he should be able to troubleshoot a non start condition.

Spark, fuel and air. You need someone with a YDS (Yamaha cable to interface with computer) to confirm what the engine ECM is thinking and what might be preventing the start.
