Found a 2014 GTS 207 with only 10 hours. They ran it the first year and had a near drowning and never took it out again...? They say it’s been checked out but what are y’all’s thoughts on a boat sitting that long. Good bad and ugly please.

Welcome Coach
What kind of money are we talking about?
If it was stored away properly and fuel drained completely it could be ok
If you are unfamiliar with boats have it looked over by a professional

Good to have you here, Coach! Welcome!

Sad story... if true. You can call me skeptical on just about any story a seller tells. The near drowning is not the part that raises question for me. It is 2021. That means after the accident they either had this thing in storage or in the garage for 7 years? That is a long time to pay for storage or to see that reminder taking up all of that space in the garage. Jus sayin.

So, first I would take it to my own shop to have it checked out, including seeing if someone can hook up to the computer and read the number of hours on the engine. If it really is only 10 hours and has been sitting, first I would worry about the gas (as @Neutron mentions). Sitting gas for that long can gum up and clog injectors, fuel pumps, etc. Next: batteries. If they were not on chargers, it/they may be shot. They should be load tested.

I would not think there would be too much suspect if there really are 10 hours as far as gaskets, pistons, etc. are concerned. But as I am skeptical on that front, I would give the whole thing a good once over by a pro, as if it were a 7 year old boat with 100 hours on it.

Oh, and update your profile with your location. Helps us give you better advice and sometimes you can find a nearby friend...

:Welcome:
Like the others said, check it out thoroughly...if the story is true, it's a weird thing to have a new boat sitting for years unused and reminding them of the near drowning incident. If they had payments, they would have sold it off or took it back to the dealer to recoup some of their money. More likely they damaged the engine and are trying to dump it. Had someone try that with me years ago but we walked away when they were not willing to put it in the water for a wet test - I think the engine was toast.

Now if it checks out ok with a professional, and it's a good price, then maybe they were hoping to get over the incident some day and it just never happened. Some good deals are legit.

Thanks ,
Glad to be here. I am a little relieved that it is being sold through a broker and isn’t a scam. I’ve got them down to 23k. I’m still waiting to get records for on their mechanic. I have been in contact with a surveyor( I found myself and not through broker). He is going to have a ROTAX guy check compression and mechanics.

23k no way - not me,

Is this boat for sale in your general area?

who are you going to have work on it when it breaks ? yes it's rotax but when you pull into a mechanic and they see Glastron are they going to point you out the door or are they going to rake you over the coals ? many "boat" shops are not savvy with the jet system and many members find a PWC shop is more knowledgeable about diagnosing/fixing issues than guys used to inboards/outboards,

If you're confident to work on it yourself I'd consider getting a glastron, if you need a mechanic I'd figure out who that was first and have them (not a surveyor) look at the boat,

the fact that it's going through a broker makes me believe the story even less,

Don't buy this boat unless you can take a water test,

.

Red Flags for me as well. I too, find the "pull on your heart strings" story to be total BS. Like others pointed out, it just doesn't make sense. Holding on to an asset that long, making payments at worst or losing depreciation at best, all for a "near drowning". Not an actual drowning? If it was an actual drowning, I could understand people doing unexplainable things based on extraordinary circumstances. That said, if a broker is lying about that, what else are they willing to lie about?

On top of that, it is a Glastron. I've owned one (not a JB version though). Glastron is inherently more of a "budget boat". In 2014, Glastron was bought by Beneteau, whom also own Scarab. It is like comparing Beneteau to GM. Scarab is the Cadillac, Glastron is a Pontiac. Nothing wrong with that, but if you are new to boat brands, something to keep in mind. I looked up the specs on the boat. I am not in love with them. Times: 3.3s to plane, 7.8s to 30mph, and 41mph max, and that isn't with passengers. I think this boat will be a little bit of a dog on the water if you are looking to fill with people and/or attempt any water sports. Not positive, but that is my suspicion. A little underpowered.

Like everyone else said, take this one slow if you are interested. Due diligence. Not just on the engine, but on the whole boat. I would tend to believe that this boat was totaled out and restored within the 10 hour period than I would buy the "near drowning" story.

Well, the broker sold it out from under me today because the person had cash. The owner had accepted my offer and I was waiting or the contract for my lender today when he told me.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet to me, maybe a blessing in disguise

Totally dodged a bullet. I would add that broker to the NO GO list. Questionable ethics in my book
