Hi,

My check engine light came on my 2015 Scarab 165. It came on as soon as I started the Engine. Also, don't know if it is related, but the boat was having trouble starting after I turned it off.

Does something know how I can fix this? Mechanics are all closed for the holiday so please

P0138: O2 Sensor fault. It can be a faulty sensor / short but sometimes this fault can be triggered by just a low voltage situation on startup.
For reference P0138 refers to the POST-CAT sensor.

This error seems to be frequent with BRP boats. Search for the error code here and you will see the advice others have been given.

From what I have read this is a warranty claim to be made later but not anything to ruin your holiday .

Could the low voltage be due to plugging something into the 12v outlet? I have a stereo running off of there.

Thank you. I'm out of warranty so I was hoping it would be something I could fix. I searched for the error code here and didn't see any other post. Maybe there are a few different errors for the O2 sensor?

Unless this is covered under the engine warranty? I still have that.

Wow, you have a unique code. Search for oxygen sensor instead.

Googling for P0138 shows results for high oxygen sensor voltage.

I would think that emissions equipment would be covered under the engine warranty. If not I would think that the EPA would be interested to know.

I doubt just plugging something there caused the error, unless you left something on and weakened the battery. I had this error a couple of times with a weak battery when the boat was recently purchased, I suspect the error occurred while starting due to transient voltage when engaging the starter and the ECM immediately doing the O2 sensor test with low voltage. After clearing the code everything was normal again and I never saw it again I started to keep my battery on a charger and its been over 100 hours since I saw this... This is just a suspicion I have regarding the cause of this issue. Otherwise the tech. diagnosis for the error is a shorted or faulty sensor.

P0138 - Generic
Type Powertrain - Fuel and Air Metering - ISO/SAE Controlled
Description
O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage

Location Bank 1 Sensor 2

And yes that should be covered under engine warranty.
