Switch does not need to be on while on water. It is auto for 19up.

+1, its auto for 18 and up, i tested it with water fill up engine bay while battery switch off, it turned on itself!

Good to know, I have a ‘17 bought from dealer and they told me it was auto. They certainly need to train staff! Noted!
