I've been pretty vocal about not really finding the DriveX system super useful. I have found that most any situation is just as easily handled old-school.
I've had the boat about 9 months now, and finally ran into a situation where I was able to do something with DriveX that I wouldn't have attempted without. Pulling up to dock at a local restaurant I found that the place was just about full. It was a long dock with a single space between two (expensive) boats that was about 4' longer than my boat. Current from the stern was probably about 4 knots or so (this place insists on everyone docking in the same direction.) No way I'd ordinarily try to squeeze it in with just 2' in front and back. Using the side thrust and paddles allowed me to slide it sideways in like a champ while simultaneously adjusting my longitudinal position against the current. Made me look like the ace of the base to the onlookers. That situation doesn't present itself often, but when it does, it's nice to have.
