Many of us have been surprised to discover that many marinas only provide power via a 50 amp 240v or 30 amp 120v service. The 120v service is provided via a socket that requires an uncommon L5-30P male for connection. This is a different plug than is used for RVs.

In 2013 I built an extension cord from a L5-30P male from Home Depot and a cheap extension cord. I have used it for three summers. At the time it was the fastest way to make it work while on vacation and much less expensive than the near $100 adapters that I could find online.

Recently when a member asked about shore power and informed me that the previous adapter I had suggested was a dead link I discovered the $21 Coleman Cable 01915 3-Feet L5-30P to (2) Lighted 5-20R Y adapter. The price was so good that I ordered one to confirm that it is real. The L5-30P connector is the same as what I have been using. So if you need to use shore power this is about as cheap as it gets.

Walmart has it for the same price online and I have seen it for as little as $17 from other sources but did not investigate the shipping or tax costs.

You will want an extension cord to go along with the adapter. I suggest a light weight 50' extension cord. Most of use are drawing very little power through our battery chargers so a 16 or even 18 gauge cord should be fine.

This is particularly useful for anyone that wants to charge their batteries in [USERGROUP=14]@Bimini[/USERGROUP].
