So I've been on this relatively long search (for me at least, I'm usually more impulsive) on a yamaha jet boat to buy. Long story short after all my questions and some self examination of what I want and need I decided on a 2014 AR192 near me for a good price. Look at it, it's in great shape in and out, less than 100 hours.

Before I finalize the loan I take it out with the guy and with just he and I in it (very mild chop, def not glass but nothing that was throwing the boat around), it only tops out at around 35, at one point when he was driving it crept up to about 39 (He seemed to be holding it down so I'm thinking the cable might be loose) but mostly at 35. Also at times it had some hesitation to it when hitting the throttle (I hit it at various rpms). I wasn't watching the RPMs as well as I should have but it seemed to reach just over 7k. My lake is pretty cold still probably only 70ish degrees. I searched the forum last night and from what I've read, maybe plugs, maybe cable, transmission, maybe airfilter? After we docked I spoke with him about it and said I thought the boat should be in mid 40's (it's stock) Guy said yeah my friend told me that. I basically set up with him to have it delivered to a local marina to be checked out first. Any words of wisdom?

I’d say you’re on the right track. Get it all checked out. Could be something simple (more than likely) or could be a headache you want to avoid.

Don’t buy a headache. There are plenty of boats out there that are headache free. You just have to be patient (and perhaps willing to travel).

Good luck!

Could it be the supercharged acting up?
These boats have direct drives, no gears, which makes them very simple to maintain. But the pump needs to be sealed and impellers need to be perfect for good results, otherwise they “cavitate”. It’s like impeller slippage (think wheels in mud). How was the start/hole shot? Did the boat jump out of the water or was it sluggish?

That's one of the things I was wondering. I just don't know enough about them, if it were an i/o or i I generally had an idea of where the problem was. The hole shot seemed good, though there was hesitation on some of the times that I started it from stop. Other times it would just take off and I felt it was pretty good. So it either hesitation (not really sluggish) just a hesitation and then it would hit.

Whats the bottom of the boat look like? Kept in the water? Speed and rpms sound too low but keep in mind it is normal for a stock boat to momentarily cavitate (wa-wa-wa noise) if you mash the throttle from idle to full to get on plane. Lots of tips on here to help reduce it.

Bottom looks good, don't think it was ever kept in water.

I had a 2014 AR192. It hit 50 when brand new and hit 50 at the end of the last season before I sold it with around 200 hours. My biggest suspect would be the impeller. If he did a lot of beaching or driving through shallow waters, that impeller would take a beating. My second suspect would be the throttle cable. Check to make sure it is hitting the throttle stop when in full forward. Next, and hopefully not the issue, supercharger, although I have not heard of many people having issues with them on these boats. Just dont by an older Seadoo.

I checked the stealership and they have a 3 week wait (my local place is absolutely awful). I didn't think about this til last night but a friend of mine races yamaha pwc's so I called him he said he knows these things in and out. He said he would be available to check it out and that's one of the first things he said, might be impeller. Thanks for the advice and good to know that these should be running a lot faster.
