I just recently received my 2016 195 HO Impulse and found out my folding grapple-style style anchor would not come close to fitting in the anchor locker. As a result, I went down to the local West Marine and picked up their standard fluke anchor rated for this boat length (8#) and discovered to my dismay that it would also not fit in the anchor locker due not only to the width of the pivot rod but also the length of the shaft. Can anyone tell what anchor is supposed to fit into this compartment?

I was considering the Chene CH 25 or CH 30 (http://www.cheneanchor.com) but I was worried about the size of the slip-ring shaft and there's nowhere that I have been able to find the dimensions. I don't really want to increase my spare anchor collection.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

I cut mine to fit into the thumb locks inside the locker

Get you a box anchor. Costs more, but well worth it. It has its own bag you can store anywhere.

If your goal is to get an anchor that will fit properly in the anchor locker it sounds like your only option it to cut one to fit (I had to do this to a 13 lbs danforth to get it to fit into the anchor locker of a Yamaha 230, very easy to do by the way). If you want an anchor that performs well and don't mind what compartment you store it in or having to fold it to store it I recommend that you get get a box anchor. No anchor will work well in all conditions, or so I've read, but I've never had an issue with the box anchor no matter where I've used it. I can't say the same about the other anchors I have used.

Thanks for the help. I've heard a lot about the box anchors so I'll look into them (Thanks Mike and Ronnie!)

With that said, however, I can't imagine that the engineers over at Scarab Jet Boats didn't have a particular anchor in mind when they designed the anchor locker on the boat. I'd just like to know which one it was. I'm amazed it's this difficult to find out what they designed it around.

Have you checked scarab's site to see if they sell an anchor or anchor kit for your boat? I ask because it is tough finding and anchor that fits without modification in Yamaha's anchor locker but Yamaha does offer one (I believe it's a danforth style anchor) on their site that fits perfectly and at a price premium of course.

Hi Ronnie.

Yes. The Scarab web site is great for several things but the only stuff you can find on their website (www.scarabjetboats.com) are either parts that were installed on your boat or t-shirts and beer cozies. I couldn't find an anchor listed anywhere.

I have 215 and store the box anchor in the anchor compartment. I lined it with some left over gym tile and it just fits. I'm not sure about the size difference of the lockers in the 2 boats.

One good thing about all of this was I finally managed to locate the dimensions of the different Chene anchor models (see attached). These are supposed to work really well in a sandy or muddy bottom - which would fulfill the requirements of the lake we're on. Also, they say specifically to not use a length of chain on the rode. This makes sense because of the normal setting problem you'd have with any slip ring fluke style anchor. If there's a chain on it, the ring would be pulled to the wrong end of the anchor during the drop and would simply drag it bass ackwards over the bottom without grabbing anything.

I haven't been able to check it vs the size of the locker but at least there's hope now.

I guess I lucked out because the anchor I had for my Seadoo boat fit perfectly in the Scarab. It's a pretty standard design for the boating supply stores in Canada so hopefully you guys can find one. The locker seems to be specifically designed to fit this style (photo attached of the style).

I have the same but it was 1/2" too wide to be perfect fit.

It looks like it was designed for this one but unfortunately I don't have much info on it. It has a #11 on it, but no other markings. It came from Canadian Tire a few years back, so that won't help the US owners much. 20160628_220453.jpg 20160628_220618.jpg

Of know size isn't everything when it comes to anchors but the one pictured sure looks small, smaller than the 13 lbs hooker I got from west marine and cut down the rods a little on to get it to fit in the anchor locker correctly. My danforth only set properly on the first try about 1/2 the time.

Did anyone figure out the anchor issue? I took delivery of a 255 HO Impulse from Marine max last week and they squeezed an anchor into the locker that didn't fit. They are working on a solution for me now so I can stow the bow ladder and close the anchor locker all the way.

I just got a box anchor and I've had mixed results. Two times last weekend a friend threw it out and it just stayed on its side no matter what. Had to walk out and tip it over manually. Other times it has worked great and shocked other boaters who's anchors did jack-$hit on the hard bottomed sandbar in moderate wind. I think I will still like it overall once I get used to how to throw it and how much line is required (not much per the manufacturer), etc.

You cant just lower it. The box anchor works by digging, just more efficient that the common Danforth. You drop it then let a little line out, and pull or slight reverse. But yea, I had 2 boats, and 5 skis connected at one time on the beach. Held like a champ.
